Requirements
  • A Master's degree in the Social Science or Social Service field is required.
  • The candidate must meet the criteria of a Mental Health Professional.
  • If not licensed, the candidate must hold and maintain an active Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor License, which may be pending for up to 60 days if applied for within 7 days of being offered employment, or a mental health Associate License, including Marriage and Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, and Clinical Social Worker.
  • At least five years of experience in the field with some administrative experience is required.
  • The candidate must maintain a current CPR certification, obtaining it within 90 days of hire if it is not active at the time of hire.
  • The candidate must maintain active First Aid certification.
  • The candidate must take a tuberculosis test annually and at the time of hire.
  • The candidate must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all patient-related information.
  • The candidate must receive a background check from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and Washington State Patrol.
  • The candidate must comply with Sea Mar ethical standards and Washington State Department of Health requirements.
  • The candidate must have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for the three years immediately before employment and must not misuse alcohol or other drugs while employed.
  • The candidate must complete an annual clinical competency test as a mental health therapist.
  • The candidate must be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • The candidate must be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • The candidate must be able to speak effectively before clients or employees of an organization.
  • The candidate must be able to calculate figures and amounts, including discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • The candidate must be able to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
  • The candidate must be able to apply common sense and understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
  • The candidate must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise outpatient mental health treatment at the site and supervise Mental Health Therapists through all phases of their work.
  • Provide direct client services, conduct groups, intakes, assessments, outpatient evaluations, and psychotherapy for individuals and families using varied therapeutic treatment modalities.
  • Supervise support staff in implementing systems and coordinate with the Behavioral Health Program Manager on client-related administrative and clinical management procedures.
  • Participate in interviewing and selecting employment candidates, train employees, and plan, assign, and direct employee work and caseloads.
  • Review client charts for compliance with Behavioral Health Organization, Washington State Department of Behavioral Health and Recovery, and The Joint Commission requirements.
  • Provide individual and group clinical supervision to mental health therapists, peer specialists, case managers, and program staff at the site.
  • Review and approve therapists' clinical documentation and electronic progress notes in Cerner when appropriate.
  • Partner with the Program Manager to ensure staff meet weekly service hours, monthly productivity requirements, and caseload expectations, and that caseloads are adequately distributed.
  • Ensure client retention, treatment success, and high quality of care.
  • Ensure staff follow the Sea Mar patient-centered model and applicable Washington Administrative Code, county contracts, The Joint Commission, and Sea Mar policies and procedures.
  • Conduct weekly file reviews, implement corrective actions, and report findings to the Program Manager and, when appropriate, the Regional Behavioral Health Director.
  • Ensure quality-improvement reports are completed timely and clinical staff submit accurate daily data and data entry in the regional data system.
  • Maintain positive relationships with the Behavioral Health Organization and referral agencies.
  • Promote the program to community-based agencies, faith communities, social service agencies, criminal justice institutions, community health centers, schools, and other potential referral agencies.
  • Protect client information and ensure employees follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act confidentiality requirements.
  • Ensure daily completion and timely review and approval of electronic progress notes.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and apply knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
  • Identify and categorize age-specific patient needs, including infant, adolescent, and geriatric needs.
  • Ensure system integration of primary care, behavioral health, dental care, and overall health services.
  • Participate in management and staff meetings, coordinate with staff and management, and assist with appropriate inter-agency referrals.
  • Maintain regular client contact, including home visits when necessary, to assess and evaluate psychiatric status, basic needs, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Consult and collaborate with professionals and agencies on client evaluations, treatment plans, and follow-up.
  • Prepare concise, complete, and timely consumer records with the Manager according to agency policy and Washington Administrative Code requirements.
  • Ensure clinical staff maintain updated documentation and meet The Joint Commission standards in delivering clinical services.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Regional Director.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience working with Latinos, migrant and seasonal farm workers, and homeless individuals is preferred.
  • Certification as a minority Mental Health Specialist as prescribed by Washington Administrative Code is preferred.
  • Licensed status is preferred, including Washington State Department of Health Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.
