Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, or qualifying additional work experience may substitute for up to four years of the required education.
  • Three years of experience in laboratory or waste management are required.
  • One year of experience leading or supervising professional staff is required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations, workflows, and best practices appropriate to the discipline is required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards, regulations, and compliance requirements is required.
  • Knowledge of chemical laboratory safety is required.
  • Knowledge of chemicals, general laboratory techniques, experimental methods, supplies, and equipment used in an undergraduate chemistry laboratory is required.
  • Skill in managing day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance is required.
  • Skill in troubleshooting equipment issues and coordinating repairs or replacements is required.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office or Google Workspace products is required.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of laboratory safety is required.
  • Ability to adapt to changing research, instructional, or operational needs is required.
  • Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service is required.
  • The role requires dexterity and patience when using or maintaining delicate scientific instruments, strength to lift heavy or bulky containers, and freedom from allergies or chemical sensitivities.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operations of teaching laboratory stockrooms in Edward St. John and Chemistry buildings.
  • Train and supervise personnel, including the Coordinator and Instructional Laboratory Technicians.
  • Oversee teaching assistants and work-study students assigned to the stockroom.
  • Train personnel in the proper handling and storage of chemicals, solutions, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor performance, implement process improvements, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to unit policies and procedures.
  • Purchase chemicals, glassware, equipment, and expendable materials for assigned courses.
  • Obtain vendor quotes and collaborate with the Supervisor to ensure purchasing decisions account for financial and budgetary constraints.
  • Inspect orders for accuracy.
  • Ensure laboratory safety compliance, waste management, and upkeep of both stockrooms.
  • Manage the acquisition and inventory of materials and supplies for teaching laboratories while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Desired Qualifications
  • Instructional laboratory experience is preferred.
