Requirements
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience, based on state regulation requirements.
  • Six months of experience working within a physician’s office is desired.
  • Urology experience is desired.
  • Minimal travel is required.
  • Ability to perform well in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems operations, including electronic medical records and practice management solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Project management skills.
  • Vendor relations experience for Medical Assistants required to order office and clinical supplies.
  • Database management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of carrying, pushing, pulling, and lifting specified weights.
Responsibilities
  • Perform administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the assigned direct supervisor.
  • Confer with physicians, nursing staff, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule patient appointments.
  • Greet and prepare patients.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Record patient interviews, histories, and chief complaints.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests.
  • Assist physicians with examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy, collect other laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests.
  • Perform electrocardiograms.
  • Assist with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
  • Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first-aid procedures.
  • Use CPR skills when necessary.
  • Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
  • Open the office in the morning and close it in the afternoon.
  • Maintain patient logs for laboratory requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
  • Maintain the prescription ledger when needed.
  • Maintain back-office flow, keep rooms full, and assist with room turnover.
  • Perform thorough new-patient workups, including X-rays, vital signs, and new-patient packet explanations.
  • Add medical history for new patients and accurately update established patients’ histories.
  • Perform accurate and complete room setup for physicians.
  • Ensure that each patient’s medication list is updated before the physician visit.
  • Set up in-office surgical procedures.
  • Ensure that appropriate consent forms are completed correctly while avoiding excessive medical abbreviations.
  • Scribe as assigned according to physician office flow.
  • Prepare for the following day’s patients, including confirming next-day visits.
  • Complete patient medical-record requests when necessary.
  • Assist with the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensure proper handoff of responsibilities after completing assigned tasks.
  • Meet established attendance criteria and begin work promptly for assigned or confirmed shifts.
  • Support the organization’s commitment to cultural diversity through behavior, language, and actions.
  • Use time and resources effectively.
  • Adhere to human resources and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all patient medical records are accurate and complete.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, medical laws, and high ethical standards.
  • Support compliance and accreditation efforts, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines for Parts C and D, general compliance, and fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
