Verifone launches Victa biometric payment devices in Australia for facial and palm-vein verification.

Verifone launches Victa biometric payment devices in Australia for facial and palm-vein verification. Quick summary. Verifone is introducing biometric payment technology to Australia via its new Victa device suite. The platform enables facial and palm-vein verification at checkout, allowing consumers to link loyalty and payments for a frictionless experience. This opt-in technology aims to enhance security and speed for Australian retailers and shoppers. How does Verifone Victa improve the checkout experience? Biometric payment technology transforms the point of sale by removing the need for physical cards or phones. By utilizing facial and palm-vein recognition, Verifone allows consumers to verify their identity and complete transactions with a simple gesture. This integration is designed to reduce checkout friction while maintaining high security standards through PCI PTS 7.x compliance. * Faster transactions through instant biometric identification. * Seamless loyalty integration without physical cards. * Enhanced security using point-to-point encryption and tokenization. The Victa platform is built on an open operating system, allowing third-party developers to create bespoke business tools. This flexibility means merchants can offer split payments, donations, and personalized marketing directly on the device, turning a standard terminal into a comprehensive business management tool. What are the key features of the Victa device suite? The Victa family includes a diverse range of form factors tailored for different retail environments. From the Victa Mini for pop-up shops to the Victa Unattended for kiosks, Verifone ensures that biometric payment technology is accessible across all commerce channels. The hardware is also designed with sustainability in mind, featuring 60% recycled plastics and field-replaceable batteries. * 12-hour battery life to support full retail shifts. * Haptic feedback and audio cues for improved accessibility. * Recycled materials reducing the environmental impact of hardware. For merchants, the ability to personalize the checkout is a significant advantage. By recognizing enrolled customers via biometrics, retailers can trigger tailored loyalty rewards and specific service offerings instantly. This creates a more connected commerce environment that bridges the gap between digital identity and physical retail. Ff news take: Verifone's introduction of biometric payment technology to the Australian market definitely moves the needle. While biometrics have long been used to unlock smartphones, bringing facial and palm-vein verification to the physical POS terminal is a bold step toward "invisible payments." By focusing on an open platform and sustainable hardware, Verifone isn't just launching a terminal; they are establishing a new standard for connected retail infrastructure in the APAC region. Verifone launches Australia's first biometric payment devices with face and palm-vein technology

Verifone has introduced biometric-capable payment devices in Australia, allowing shoppers to pay using facial recognition or palm-vein scanning. The Verifone Victa suite is Australia's first payment device with built-in biometric capabilities. Australia is among the first Asia-Pacific markets to receive this technology, following New Zealand's launch last month. The system enables customers to complete transactions by looking at the screen or presenting their palm, potentially linking loyalty programmes with payments to reduce checkout friction. Biometric payment remains entirely optional. Customers must enrol through participating providers such as merchants, banks, or digital wallets and provide consent. Traditional payment methods including cards, phones, and PINs continue to be available at terminals. Kristy Gregory, Head of Strategic Partners at Verifone, noted that Australians are accustomed to contactless payments, and biometric verification represents the next evolution in secure, frictionless checkout experiences.

Eye on POS: Verifone's move against skimming; SUNMI's multifunctional POS.

Eye on POS: Verifone's move against skimming; SUNMI's multifunctional POS. Verifone Inc. announced early Thursday it has been awarded a U. S. patent on technology that protects point-of-sale terminals and unattended payment devices from card skimming. The move comes as estimates indicate skimming losses grew 5% last year, reaching approximately $1 billion in the U.S. market. In skimming attacks, bad actors use hard-to-detect devices they insert into the card slot of a payment device or ATM to pick up account data related to the card. The data can then be used in the creation of fake cards. The crime is hard to detect, while longstanding preventive measures such as physical seals, sensors, or manual inspections "can be bypassed by an attacker who knows where to look," according to Verifone. "Instead of asking a terminal to detect a specific type of attack, we asked it to autonomously recognize when its own physical environment has changed in a suspect or unnatural way," says Will Morgan, Verifone's chief information security officer, in a statement. The new detection technology, called Wireless Tamper Detection, is aided by the radio capability already installed in many more recent payment terminals, says New York City-based Verifone. That allows the anti-skimming technology to be installed without the need for additional hardware, the company says. The patent number for the device is 12,664,553. The new detection technology can be provided through software rather than requiring hardware, Verifone says, because most modern payment terminals already feature radio capability. Verifone, founded in 1981, commands an estimated 30% share of the U.S. retail POS terminal market. It was acquired by Francisco Partners in 2018 for $3.4 billion. In related news, the Singapore-based POS technology provider SUNMI announced software that enables merchants to attend to ordering and other tasks on a main terminal while accepting contactless transactions on a separate device. The move is part of what the company calls an expansion of its SoftPOS platform aimed at adding contactless-payment capability to a greater range of commercial payment devices. SoftPOS depends on software already installed in consumer devices to accept payments. Some 24% of POS providers offer softPOS, up from 16% in 2025, according to TSG, an Omaha, Neb.-based payments-research firm.

Verifone and Fexco are elevating the customer experience with Dynamic Currency Conversion.

Verifone and Fexco are elevating the customer experience with Dynamic Currency Conversion. July 17, 2026 Every day, millions of international shoppers face uncertainty at checkout: What exchange rate will I get? What will I actually pay? For Verifone, solving that moment of friction became a strategic priority. Tim Aden, who manages Strategic Partnerships for Verifone, shares insights into the highly successful collaboration between Verifone and Fexco, which has spanned more than ten years. The partnership brings together Fexco's Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) expertise and Verifone's world-class card-present payment solutions to deliver a seamless and integrated customer payment experience. The power of a strategic partnership. Verifone has a strong presence across key sectors including retail, quick-service restaurants (QSR), and food and beverage - industries that regularly serve high volumes of international customers. In these environments, cross-border payments can often create friction at the point of sale, with customers uncertain about exchange rates, final transaction values, and the amount that will ultimately appear on their bank statement. This lack of clarity can lead to hesitation and a stressful checkout experience. For businesses serving international customers, the value of DCC has therefore become undeniable. "Those are areas where DCC is a no-brainer. It's table stakes for a lot of retailers." While Verifone is a global leader in payment infrastructure, the company recognised the value of partnering with a specialist that has deep expertise and a long-standing track record in the DCC space. Rather than developing the capability independently, Verifone chose to collaborate with Fexco, a pioneer and global leader in DCC, to bring proven expertise and innovation into its payment ecosystem. As Aden notes: "In the case of DCC, it just made sense to partner with a leader like Fexco." Dynamic Currency Conversion: benefiting merchants and shoppers. Dynamic Currency Conversion is a payment solution that offers international customers the choice to pay in their preferred currency at the point of sale, with full transparency on FX rates and margins. For merchants: value-added payments and new revenue streams. For merchants, DCC provides an opportunity to unlock incremental revenue on eligible transactions through a guaranteed commission share, while also enhancing the overall customer experience. Importantly, the solution can be integrated with minimal operational complexity, allowing merchants to enhance their payment offering without overhauling their existing infrastructure. In fact, 82% of merchants offering DCC report an average sales uplift of 11%.* For customers: clarity, confidence and control at checkout. For international customers, DCC eliminates much of the uncertainty surrounding international payments and foreign exchange. When presented with the DCC option on the payment terminal, customers can see the transaction amount in their own currency before deciding how they would like to pay. "It gives them the comfort of knowing, 'When I make this transaction, I don't have to guess what's going to be on my statement.'" This transparency creates a frictionless, personalised and positive checkout experience, with 80% of customers believing that businesses offering DCC provide better value.* From seamless integration to go-live in three to four months. A key factor in the partnership's success is the integration of Fexco's DCC solution into Verifone's payment application. The process is designed to feel completely natural for the shopper. When an eligible international card is tapped or inserted, the terminal displays an additional screen offering the customer a choice of currencies. It does not disrupt the transaction flow but instead adds a valuable layer of service, ensuring a frictionless and intuitive process for both the cashier and the customer. While introducing new technology can often be a daunting prospect for merchants, Verifone and Fexco have made implementation straightforward and efficient. "From the initial conversation to getting the product live, including pilots and testing, we've seen that happen in as little as three or four months." This rapid turnaround is possible because the solution is designed to require minimal operational effort. Merchants can integrate it without overhauling their existing payment infrastructure, making adoption simple and practical. The combination of an improved customer experience, an additional revenue stream, and minimal operational complexity has driven strong interest among merchants. An innovative partnership for the future. By combining Verifone's global payment network with Fexco's specialised expertise in Dynamic Currency Conversion, the two companies have created a solution that delivers commercial value for merchants while improving the payment experience for their customers. Aden concludes: "It's one of those situations where everyone wins, and I think it's a great example of innovation that really does drive value for merchants. It's also a testament to the good work that Verifone and Fexco have done together to bring this solution to market." *Market research conducted by Qualtrics on behalf of Fexco. The research included a sample of 1,000 respondents across seven countries: Ireland, France, Germany, the UK, Canada, Brazil and Mexico.
