Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED, or 10 years of work experience, is required.
  • One year of experience in a laboratory setting is required.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • The role requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing 0–25 pounds; occasional handling of objects weighing 25–50 pounds; and rare climbing.
  • The role requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements, near and distance vision, color discrimination, hearing, speech, and keyboard use/data entry, with occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
Responsibilities
  • Perform standard laboratory tasks according to established procedures under general supervision.
  • Load and unload laboratory specimens from automated and non-automated instrumentation and perform waived testing.
  • Assist with problem requisitions and specimens.
  • Orient new hires when assigned.
  • Answer phones and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Collect, label, process, and preserve blood, urine, and other specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Enter, access, and execute laboratory orders in the appropriate laboratory and electronic medical record system.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory supplies and the work area.
  • Update statistical records, label tubes, and schedule processing runs when assigned.
  • Perform moderate-complexity testing when assigned.
  • Perform phlebotomy and waived testing when assigned.
  • Identify patients using two identifiers.
  • Perform admission activities, insurance verification, order-entry processing, and medical-record processing.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
