Job Description Summary
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), College of Medicine, Department of Radiation Medicine is seeking an innovative radiation oncology clinician scientist to join our multidisciplinary team at MUSC and the Hollings Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center. The successful applicant will engage in both clinical care and scientific research, contributing to advancing cancer treatment through innovative approaches in radiation therapy. The ideal candidate will be a BC/BE radiation oncologist who is collaborative in nature with a proven track record of clinical excellence and research productivity, and excited about working in a diverse and supportive environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead cutting-edge research while providing high-quality patient care. The physician is expected to carry faculty rank based on experience and would have the opportunity to participate and lead in basic/translational research, clinical trials, resident education, and multidisciplinary patient care. Job Description
The MUSC College of Medicine, the Hollings Cancer Center, and the Department of Radiation Medicine have partnered to provide a very competitive 3–5-year startup package to support a highly-qualified candidate’s research program, including lab space with standard modern equipment, shared core facilities at MUSC and Hollings Cancer Center, as well as startup funding for 3-5 years, depending on the candidate. Opportunities to access Veterans Administration research funding are also under development.
Hollings Cancer Center is an NCI-Designated Center with more than $50M in annual research funding, 141 collaborative cancer scientists, and shared core resources that include Biorepository, Biostatistics, Cell and Molecular Imaging, Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting (CyTOF), Lipidomics, Translational Science Laboratory, and Social Determinants of Health, as well as a small animal imaging unit. In addition, a new image-guided small animal irradiator system is slated for installation next year.
The Charleston campus and nearby Mount Pleasant satellite host three Varian TrueBeam accelerators, a Esprit Gamma Knife unit, and a Radixact tomotherapy unit as well as two CT Simulators, multiple treatment planning platforms, and strong LDR and HDR brachytherapy programs. A brachytherapy suite with dedicated MRI and CT guidance is under development as well. The Department supports an ACGME-accredited residency program for physicians and a CAMPEP-accredited residency program for physicists. The physician would be afforded opportunities for leadership development and career advancement.
