Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Registered nurses hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an associate or diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years and successfully obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
  • Ability to perform the required standing, sitting, walking, stair-climbing, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, grasping, pinching, fine-motor, and repetitive-motion functions.
  • Ability to maintain the specified corrected visual acuity, depth perception, color discrimination, peripheral vision, hearing acuity, tactile sensory function, and, where applicable, olfactory sensory function.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts and overtime as required, work in a latex-safe environment, and qualify physically for respirator use where applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care focused on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goals and interventions in accordance with MUSC policies.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment by ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Participate in the professional practice model, shared governance, peer review, professional development, and activities promoting leadership and clinical excellence.
  • Apply care management principles to coordinate effective and efficient delivery of patient care services.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote a healthy work environment and accept personal responsibility for professional growth.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Nursing degree is preferred.
