Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years and successfully obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
  • The role requires the ability to perform the listed physical and mental job functions, including standing, sitting, walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted, exerting up to 50 pounds of force, maintaining corrected vision and hearing, working rotating shifts and overtime, and dealing effectively with stressful situations.
  • The role requires working in a latex-safe environment and, for selected positions, maintaining olfactory sensory function and being physically qualified for respirator use.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level using nursing process principles and practices.
  • Provide nursing care using assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goals and interventions consistent with MUSC policies.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Participate in shared governance, adhere to standards of care, participate in peer review and professional development, and promote leadership and clinical excellence.
  • Apply effective team skills, autonomous practice, accountability for actions, and critical thinking.
  • Coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services through care management principles.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote a healthy work environment and accept personal responsibility for professional growth.
