Requirements
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Basic life support certification is required within three months of hire.
- Successful completion of organization, department, and job-specific competencies is required within three months of hire.
- The employee must be able to read and interpret data from equipment and computers.
- The employee must have keyboarding skills to operate a personal computer or mobile device.
- The employee must be able to gather data and follow the plan of action established by the therapist within the scope of the Rehab Clinical Assistant role.
- The employee must be able to use a copier and fax machine.
- The employee must be able to cross-train and attain competencies in other areas within Rehabilitation Services.
- The employee must have proficiency in oral and written English grammar, communication, and basic mathematics.
- The employee must be able to retrieve patient data on the computer.
- The employee must be able to safely transfer patients from bed to wheelchair and back to bed and use safe patient-handling equipment.
Responsibilities
- The Rehab Clinical Assistant provides technical patient care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients under the supervision of a rehabilitation therapist.
- The employee assists patients with non-billable therapeutic exercises and activities under the supervision of a therapist.
- The employee charts exercises performed with patients in the electronic medical record.
- The employee assists the Physical Therapist with whirlpool activities.
- The employee assists the Physical Therapist and/or Occupational Therapist with co-treatment requiring a second person.
- The employee transports patients.
- The employee performs department maintenance activities, including stocking supplies, moving equipment, ordering and procuring supplies, and cleaning equipment.
- The employee provides basic customer service, including directions and visitor control.
- The employee provides information, direction, and assistance to people entering the department.
- The employee stocks, disposes of, and orders linen.
- The employee cleans surfaces patients contact and cleans toys weekly or upon therapist request.
- The employee answers phones and takes messages.
- The employee stocks and orders supplies, including crutches, splints, theraband, wound-care dressings, and forms.
- The employee contacts the manager, maintenance, or clinical equipment maintenance department about faulty equipment.
- The employee uses the outpatient scheduling system in the electronic medical record accurately and schedules orthopedic patients in a timely manner with therapist input.
- The employee maintains a clean and orderly environment to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- The employee attends regular staff meetings and assumes responsibility for personal growth and development.
- The employee cleans and fills whirlpool tanks according to infection-control protocols.
- The employee measures patients for Jobst stockings using the Jobst Stocking Measuring form and provides information to the case manager for ordering.
- The employee assists therapists with sterile dressing changes.
- The employee assists orthopedic patients with exercise programs under therapist supervision.
- The employee transports patients in a wheelchair.
- The employee assists therapists and therapy assistants with patient treatment when requested and properly instructed.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a health care delivery system is preferred.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge is preferred.
