Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current appropriate state licensure and compliance with practice requirements in the state of employment.
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.
  • The role is entry level for registered nurses with less than two years of nephrology nursing experience.
  • Successful completion of all Fresenius Kidney Care education and training requirements is required before assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, or RNs.
  • A minimum of nine months of experience as a registered nurse and three months of chronic or acute hemodialysis experience are required before serving as Team Leader or Nurse in Charge.
  • The position requires the ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and moving equipment or chemical and water solutions within the stated weight limits.
  • The employee must be able to work in an environment with potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases or materials.
  • The position may require travel to training sites or other facilities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care, including patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients.
  • Perform ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment; document findings in the patient medical record; modify the treatment plan as indicated; and notify the appropriate clinical leaders or physician when needed.
  • Assess, collaborate on, and document patients’ and families’ basic learning needs, and provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient-care staff, the daily safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy to assigned patients.
  • Administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithms, and document medical justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures.
  • Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned.
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures, and reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections.
  • Identify expected outcomes and document and update nursing assessments and plans of care through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment-modality options.
  • Complete Clinical Advancement Program requirements to advance.
  • Provide assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, or RNs as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge after meeting the specified training and experience requirements.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
