Requirements
  • A sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing, including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.
  • Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations; the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act; the Occupational Health and Safety Act; the Pharmacy Act; the Food and Drugs Act (Canada); the Controlled Substances Act (Canada); the Health Promotion and Protection Act; the Personal Health Protection Act; the Coroners Act; College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice; and other pertinent federal, provincial, and municipal statutes influencing nursing home operations and the nursing department.
  • A current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and membership in good standing.
Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Registered Nurse, implement AgeCare policies and procedures on the unit and provide input into their revision within the residence and unit.
  • Liaise with physicians and other members of the health care team, including external health care partners, and notify the physician immediately of significant changes in resident status when the Registered Nurse is absent.
  • Work with other members of the health care team to ensure residents’ care needs are met.
  • Provide direction to Personal Support Workers on the care team.
  • Participate in shift reports with members of the health care team and ensure all team members are informed of changes in resident status.
