Requirements
  • Possess, at minimum, a nursing degree from an accredited college or university or graduate from an approved Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse program.
  • Possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English and read technical procedures and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to residents' age-related needs.
  • Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures and laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to nursing care facilities.
  • Possess leadership and supervisory ability and be willing to supervise other personnel.
  • Plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary to provide quality care.
  • Possess current CPR certification.
  • Maintain required continuing education and licensing and remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Meet the facility's general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Move, push, pull, and/or carry at least 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and over a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • Assist with resident evacuation during emergencies when necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Direct nursing assistants' daily functions and ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and nursing service procedures.
  • Review policies, procedures, manuals, and job descriptions and recommend revisions.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing and support personnel.
  • Prepare required reports, recommendations, medical forms, evaluations, studies, charting, census reports, charge slips, and other administrative records.
  • Coordinate nursing services with resident services and other departments to maintain each resident's total care regimen.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and facility inspections by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist with discharge planning.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents and complete associated records and forms.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident protected health information and facility information-system credentials and report suspected unauthorized access.
  • Complete admission, transfer, discharge, accident, incident, and routine medical-record documentation.
  • Receive telephone orders from physicians, transcribe orders, update charts and medication records, and document residents' responses to care.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments, verify resident identity, maintain medication supplies and narcotic records, and report discrepancies.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, and recommend personnel actions to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Develop work assignments, provide leadership, conduct rounds, monitor staff performance, and report problem areas.
  • Ensure nursing assistants and nurse aide trainees meet training and supervision requirements.
  • Provide nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts and report staffing issues, exposures, fraud, and other incidents as required.
  • Inform staff about admissions, prepare rooms, orient residents and families, make physician rounds, and arrange diagnostic, therapeutic, and transportation services.
  • Review resident charts, treatments, medication orders, diets, care plans, and resident status; notify physicians and next of kin of accidents or changes in condition.
  • Provide or oversee restorative and rehabilitative care and professional services including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound dressings, colostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital signs, and range-of-motion exercises.
  • Monitor seriously ill residents and ensure direct care follows resident care plans and wishes.
  • Follow and enforce safety, sanitation, infection-control, isolation, hand-hygiene, fire-safety, disaster-preparedness, and personal protective equipment procedures.
  • Maintain clean and safe nursing work areas and resident care areas and ensure safe operation and adequate supply of medications, equipment, and medical supplies.
  • Participate in developing and delivering in-service training, employee orientation, clinical supervision, continuing education, and advance-directive training.
  • Review care plans and resident goals, problems, approaches, and revisions; ensure certified nursing assistants understand and follow care plans.
  • Assist with Minimum Data Set assessments and Resident Assessment Protocol implementation.
  • Provide data to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee and report suspected fraud involving false billings, cost reports, or kickbacks.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman.
