Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a related area.
  • Six years of experience cultivating and soliciting major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations, along with fundraising and relationship management experience.
  • Experience cultivating, closing, and stewarding six-figure gifts.
  • Residence and strong philanthropic connections in the Northeast Region, specifically New York, Washington, D.C., Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, or Pennsylvania.
  • General knowledge of advancement programs and processes.
  • General knowledge of Internal Revenue Service rules regarding philanthropic gifts.
  • Understanding of and adherence to the Donor Bill of Rights.
  • Mastery of written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver persuasive and compelling presentations to secure major gifts and donations.
  • Ability to work as an entrepreneurial and independent problem solver.
Responsibilities
  • Independently identify and manage a portfolio of 100–125 prospects and donors, including foundations, corporations, alumni, and friends, throughout the assigned region.
  • Identify and progress major-gift prospects through the gift cycle, from qualification through stewardship, and document prospect interactions, outcomes, strategies, and rationales in WGU’s donor management system.
  • Engage prospective donors and build strong relationships.
  • Develop proposals based on WGU’s fundraising priorities and donor investment interests.
  • Work collaboratively with the WGU Advancement team, the Regional Vice President, and internal constituents to develop broad-reach and targeted engagement opportunities.
  • Qualify individual, corporate, and foundation prospects and cultivate those able to contribute $100,000 or more.
  • Assist in developing annual fundraising goals using past giving history and anticipated new funding opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively across the university to ensure proposals and reports are well prepared and properly vetted.
  • Report relevant donor activity and strategy regularly to the Executive Director of Development and other internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate internally in adherence to WGU processes, deadlines, budgets, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Attend designated company summits, conferences, company-location visits, and other business-related events as needed, with up to 30% travel and some weekend work expected.
