Requirements
  • At least 2–3 years of experience as a diesel technician is required.
  • Some computer skills are preferred.
  • ASE certifications are preferred but not required.
  • A valid Class B commercial driver's license is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for long periods.
  • Ability to perform frequent repetitive hand motions.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Ability to frequently lift 5 to 50 pounds and occasionally lift 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to perform accurate, knowledgeable, and detailed work.
Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain diesel engine trucks according to dealership and factory specifications.
  • Perform work outlined on repair orders efficiently and accurately in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose the cause of malfunctions and perform repairs.
  • Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag removed parts when required under warranty or requested by the customer.
  • Examine assigned vehicles to determine whether further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Immediately communicate with the service advisor or dispatcher when additional work is needed, outlined work is unnecessary, or repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Document all work performed and recommended on repair orders.
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Keep vehicles clean and immediately notify the service advisor or dispatcher of anything affecting a vehicle's appearance or condition.
  • Keep the shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintain and account for dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to their proper place and condition.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous-waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements.
  • Operate all tools and equipment safely.
  • Immediately report safety issues to management.
