BUILD RELIABILITY ENGINEER (STARSHIP ELECTRONICS)

The Build Reliability organization at SpaceX is an inclusive, inter-disciplinary team that is committed to the reliability of flight components and production assemblies. Your breadth of exposure as a Starship Build Reliability Engineer will be immense as you collaborate with other core groups at SpaceX, supporting the hardware from design to production and operation. You use data to understand the factors that drive reliability, and support quality objectives in design and development teams to drive reliability improvements in manufacturing, test, and flight. You have the ability to dive deep into the details to identify, understand and solve difficult technical problems and also utilize a system level approach to prioritize issues for the Starship vehicle. You thrive in a hands-on environment and will spend time in the office, on the factory floor, and in the lab to execute on the mission to make humankind a multi-planetary species.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Act as the primary point of contact for production non-conforming hardware, troubleshooting, root cause, failure investigations, and corrective actions
• Partner with electrical design engineering and manufacturing teams through product development and production to improve product reliability by applying best practices to designs and establishing repeatable process control
• Utilize advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, x-ray machines, logic analyzers, and custom firmware scripts to root cause electronics
• Define the ongoing reliability testing strategy to monitor the manufacturing process health and screen for long-term reliability defects caused by process and component variability
• Monitor the yield rate of products through regular build quality reviews, and drive corrective action to products not meeting design specifications
• Contain suspect or known non-conforming product, providing guidance to technicians, shop supervisors and engineers to assist in quarantining and rework activities
• Develop, implement, and validate Lean test and inspection processes for new and existing products and processes, ensuring that criteria are objective and that quality goals are consistently met

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, hardware engineering, engineering physics, or equivalent engineering discipline
• 1+ years working with digital or mixed-signal designs, using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and/or soldering equipment (includes internships and school projects)
• 1+ years in a manufacturing, reliability, and/or hardware development role (student project team or internship experience qualifies)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Demonstrated experience interpreting test data and schematics to identify defects in electronics hardware
• Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent engineering discipline
• 2+ Years of industry experience working with electronic hardware
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for the team’s spirit of innovation and mission of improving reliability in cutting-edge technology
• Demonstrated application of statistical process controls (SPC) in high volume manufacturing, test, and quality environment
• Programming experience in Python and SQL with an emphasis on data analysis and automation
• Knowledge of quality tools such as Lean principles, Six Sigma, root cause analysis and corrective action, advanced product quality planning (APQP), metrology, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), control plans, and various problem-solving approaches
• Self-starter attitude, energy, and the ability to communicate effectively across business and technical disciplines

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:                  

Pay range:      

Build Reliability Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year

Build Reliability Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year      

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
