Lucasfilm and Aspyr have reportedly cut ties after Battlefront Collection and KOTOR remake failures.

Lucasfilm and Aspyr have reportedly cut ties after Battlefront Collection and KOTOR remake failures. Published Aug 1, 2026, 7:37 AM EDT George is the Lead News Editor for TheGamer, and has been working in the industry since 2021 after graduating from the University of South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. He has also previously written for RPG Site, WhatCulture, and PlayStation Lifestyle. George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends. Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4. Lucasfilm has reportedly cut ties with Star Wars remaster developer Aspyr due to the failure of the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection and KOTOR remake. From Star Wars Racer to Republic Commando, the galaxy far, far away has a very long and rich history when it comes to video games. Surprisingly, many of those games haven't been lost to time and have actually been brought back with remasters, most of which have been developed by Texan studio Aspyr. Although a good number of those remasters were strong, there were two significant failures that seem to have ended the relationship between Aspyr and Lucasfilm. I am, of course, talking about the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection and original Knights of the Old Republic remake, which have reportedly led to the two companies parting ways. KOTOR remake and Battlefront Collection reportedly Lead to Lucasfilm ditching Aspyr. Looks like Gamerant won't be getting many more Star Wars remasters. As pointed out by Star Wars: Gaming, insider The Star Wars Garrison has claimed that unnamed sources close to the matter have told them that Lucasfilm has ended its partnership with Aspyr. The main reasons for this are the problems with the original KOTOR remake before it was handed off to Saber, and the Battlefront Collection's failure. A remaster of the two legendary Battlefront games should have been an easy slam dunk but, as the Mostly Negative Steam reviews make clear, that wasn't the case. The collection launched with a ton of issues, including missing features, widespread server problems, bugs, and a general lack of polish. Those two combined have reportedly led to Aspyr being ditched by Lucasfilm. This is despite the fact that Aspyr was reportedly working on a rerelease of the strategy game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and more Jedi Knight titles. The report also claims that the partnership ended up costing Lucasfilm nearly $40 million, which is pretty damning if true. Aspyr was probably its best bet of getting a Revenge of the Sith remaster, which makes this report a real shame. For now, this is just a rumour and worth taking with a grain of salt, but it is worth noting that Gamerant has not heard about anything Star Wars from Aspyr in more than a year. Since the studio was the main source of Star Wars remasters, it seems likely that Gamerant won't be getting anywhere near as many in the future. Tomb Raider LAU remaster in development for 30th anniversary, It's claimed.

Tomb Raider LAU remaster in development for 30th anniversary, It's claimed. A new rumor suggests that Aspyr may be working on a Tomb Raider project tied to the franchise's 30th anniversary, with speculation pointing toward a remaster of the LAU trilogy. The claim comes from Society of Raiders, a source that has previously shared Tomb Raider related information. In a recent post, the account stated, "Tomb Raider is collaborating once more with Aspyr, publishers of Tomb Raider I-VI Remastered for the series' 30th anniversary." It added, "We hope to see the LAU trilogy remastered and preserved on modern platforms to complete the series before ushering in the new era of the franchise." While not an explicit confirmation, the comments have fueled speculation that a remaster covering Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld could be in development. Additional attention has been drawn from recent activity on official channels. The Tomb Raider social media account acknowledged the 20th anniversary of Tomb Raider Legend this week, while earlier posts referencing Tomb Raider Underworld had already led some to suspect renewed interest in the trilogy. The timing of such a release could also align with other reported developments surrounding the franchise. Separate rumors have suggested that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis may have been delayed to February 2027, potentially leaving room for a remaster project to fill the gap. If accurate, a remaster of the LAU trilogy would follow Aspyr's previous work on Tomb Raider I-VI Remastered, continuing efforts to bring older entries in the series to modern platforms. Neither Aspyr nor Crystal Dynamics has officially confirmed any new remaster project at this time.
