Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory guidelines and compliance requirements, including OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission, AHCA, EMTALA, and CMS.
  • Proficient knowledge of the ASAP module for Emergency Room support.
  • Proficient knowledge of the ADT module for Admitting support.
  • Ability to work rotating evening, weekend, and holiday schedules, including on-call coverage where required.
  • Ability to meet applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to support the unique operations of assigned Emergency Room, Admitting, CTU, hospital-based clinic, practice-based clinic, or remote-based call center functions.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain, confirm, enter, and update demographic, financial, clinical, insurance, eligibility, and benefits information for patient accounts.
  • Contact patients, families, physicians’ offices, providers, and clinical schedulers to obtain missing information and coordinate care.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, obtain referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications, and notify patients and referring physicians of failed eligibility.
  • Collaborate with scheduling departments to identify add-on patients and coordinate complex follow-up care.
  • Notify patients of financial liabilities, explain benefits and estimates, provide financial counseling, and collect patient payments.
  • Maintain accurate records, files, documentation, and HIPAA-protected information in the system of record.
  • Serve as a lead resource and functional expert for department peers.
  • Provide supervisory coverage in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Coordinate patient flow from prearrival through discharge, including timely check-in, arrival, check-out, and clinic flow.
  • Use multiple systems, including EPIC MyChart, Grand Central ADT, Cadence, Prelude, Radiant, OP Time, Care Everywhere, Resolute, Nice inContact Communication, and Aria Oncology, to service patients.
  • Perform pre-service validation for in-person and virtual visits and assist patients with MyChart and self-check-in kiosks.
  • Handle, answer, triage, and document high-volume incoming and outgoing calls and resolve patient questions and issues.
  • Collect and process currency, reconcile the cash drawer at the end of the day, and make timely bank deposits.
  • Support departmental key performance indicator goals, including co-pay, previous-balance, estimate-collection, patient-satisfaction, accuracy, and processing-time goals.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, caregivers, providers, schedulers, nursing units, utilization review, Transfer Center, and other healthcare team members.
  • Analyze, resolve, and de-escalate issues using sound judgment and critical thinking.
  • Cross-train in Front-End Revenue Cycle and Clinical Support functions and float across areas as needed.
  • Explain and obtain acknowledgments for regulatory documents, including the HIPAA Facility Directory Form and CMS MOON, HOON, and IMM notices.
  • Complete Patient Self Determination Checklists, collect and scan pertinent documents, and provide health-plan admission notification.
  • Maintain pre-admissions logs and coordinate with bed control, the Transfer Center, providers, nursing units, and utilization review for admissions.
  • Process admissions orders received through in-basket messaging.
  • Follow physical-distancing guidelines, unit policies, and procedures and safeguard University assets.
