  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the lesson plan.
  • Coordinate completion of assignments with regular classroom teachers.
  • Assist individual students with activities instructed by a teacher.
  • Work with small groups of students under teacher supervision to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Monitor behavior contracts and reward systems for students.
  • Assist students with recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks.
  • Maintain, order, and organize inventory of materials.
  • Collect data for assessment and monitoring purposes.
  • Complete daily paperwork, including attendance reports, detention slips, student referral slips, and student passes.
  • Assist with non-standardized testing of students.
  • Tutor students in various subject areas, including computer skills and usage.
  • Assist with preparation, production, and maintenance of materials and equipment.
  • Provide initial first aid and emergency care.
  • Work with students in one-to-one and group situations.
  • Help resolve disciplinary student issues and remove disruptive or defiant children.
  • Supervise loading and unloading of buses.
  • Assist students in finding materials and books in the library.
  • Assist teachers in locating and assembling classroom materials.
  • Conduct story time for students.
  • Monitor students during recess, hall duty, and passing periods.
  • Supervise students using computer programs.
  • Provide personal assistance to students, including dispensing medication.
  • Assist assigned students with physical tasks such as dressing, moving between rooms, using the lavatory, and wheelchair maneuvers and security.
  • Perform tasks for students such as sharpening pencils and carrying lunch trays.
  • Accompany assigned students to the office or school nurse when necessary.
  • Serve as a resource person to the student personnel evaluation team concerning an assigned student.
  • Perform Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques when appropriate after training.
  • Accompany and assist students in the classroom setting.
  • Attend required meetings and conferences.
  • Attend pre-job training, ongoing training, and required meetings during the school year.
  • Laminate materials as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous clerical duties and assist other staff members.
