Requirements
  • Must be licensed by the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy or eligible for Tennessee licensed technician status; newly hired probationary employees must be licensed by the end of their first 90 days of hire and maintain active status thereafter
  • Five years of experience in pharmacy technician roles or four years with state approved certification
  • Ability to perform dispensing of medications under direct pharmacist supervision; proficiency in IV processing; problem solving skills; quality improvement involvement
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate technicians level I-III; experience in scheduling and staff coverage; strong written and verbal communication; leadership and supervisory skills
  • Must meet standards for license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority
Responsibilities
  • Assist in development of new projects and actively participate in intra-departmental communication and dissemination of information
  • Participate in pharmacy related community projects when needed
  • Prepare technician schedules and ensure shifts are covered with appropriate staff and skill level to meet departmental needs
  • Supervise level 1-3 technicians in daily performance; evaluate their performance
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards; complete required education assignments annually; participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Attend meetings as required and participate on committees; serve on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative
  • Perform functions pertaining to dispensing of medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist; include IV process proficiency and quality improvement involvement
  • Lead Pharmacy Technician responsibilities at level I, II, and advanced technicians per position criteria
  • All position accountability and performance criteria for level I, level II technician and advanced pharmacy technicians are essential
  • Actively involved in intra-departmental communication and dissemination of related information
  • Attend and participate in required education and training as part of professional development
