Requirements
  • Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse with current and unencumbered licensure.
  • A Master of Science in Nursing degree is required.
  • Ability to meet the faculty requirements set by the Board of Registered Nursing in the state of employment.
  • Current knowledge of nursing practice and the ability to mentor students.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A documented background in educational methodology consistent with teaching assignments, including education theory and practice, current concepts related to subjects taught, current clinical practice experience, or distance education techniques and delivery.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products, especially Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to maintain applicable nursing licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and evaluate student learning for assigned clinicals, labs, or simulated clinical experiences using each course's standard course outline as a guide.
  • Ensure students attain minimum course competencies described in the course syllabus.
  • Supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in lab, clinical, simulated clinical, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program.
  • Be available to students by email, phone, personal conferences, office hours, and other appropriate communication methods.
  • Meet all classes and scheduled responsibilities, including clinical hours and meetings, at designated times.
  • Leave classroom, lab, and pre- and post-conference rooms clean and orderly after each event.
  • Attend new faculty orientation, participate in the Faculty Mentor Program, and plan and implement orientation for new faculty in theory and clinical facilities.
  • Maintain a faculty development plan with academic administration.
  • Attend campus faculty meetings, in-service trainings, committee activities, and other assigned meetings.
  • Keep accurate attendance records, post attendance in the portal, and submit attendance rosters to the Academic Department for each class period.
  • Assign grades and maintain course and student records in accordance with FERPA regulations, submitting grades and records by established deadlines.
  • Contact students who miss or are not actively engaged in lab, simulated clinical, or clinical learning outcomes.
  • Make recommendations and adhere to the Academic Freedom policy in the Faculty handbook.
  • Collaborate with instructors to prepare, administer, and grade course examinations and participate in preparation of final course evaluations.
  • Assist with strategic planning and assessment of instructional initiatives to ensure program quality.
  • Use teaching principles that recognize characteristics of adult learners.
  • Make continuous efforts to improve quality of instruction.
  • Use or acquire skills for online activities that enhance course content during interactive teaching and learning.
  • Maintain student attendance records, skills check-off forms, and program data collection.
  • Submit required program reports and forms to the Program Director in a timely manner.
  • Keep current with new technologies and safety regulations.
  • Plan and supervise student clinical experiences at assigned health care facilities.
  • Evaluate student performance against clinical learning outcomes in accordance with Unitek College Department of Nursing policies and procedures.
  • Provide immediate feedback on clinical performance or specific events after observation.
  • Ensure clinical assignments meet student and facility needs.
  • Determine the best methods to observe, instruct, and evaluate students.
  • Determine whether clinical facilities meet health and safety requirements for Unitek College students.
  • Participate in student advising activities.
  • Perform other duties designated by the Program Administrator, Lead Instructor, or Academic Dean.
