Requirements
  • Licensed at independent level in any state as a Mental Health Counselor, Therapist, or Social Worker.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health related field, or social work.
  • Current licensure that meets state, commonwealth or customer-specific requirements (Care Management, Driver License, Valid In State, Licensed Professional Counselor - Care Management).
  • Must be fluent in English and able to prove United States citizenship.
Responsibilities
  • Provides non-medical, short term, solution focused counseling directly to adults, children, and youth of service members, including assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources, and follow-up as indicated.
  • CYB counselors support staff and personnel of child development centers, Department of Defense Education Activity schools, and community schools, youth programs and summer camps, and provide parent training and guidance.
  • Provides training and health and wellness presentations and participates in health fairs and other base/installation activities.
  • Enters counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application and ensures reporting accuracy while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity of service and family members.
  • With short notice, willingness to accept assignments of undefined periods including weekends; can cover on a full-time basis assignments of varying length from a weekend to two weeks.
  • Quickly builds rapport with service personnel clients, family members, students, parents and co-workers; adaptable to new working conditions and varying location rules; adjusts working style accordingly.
  • Able to work effectively with minimal instruction and guidance; listens carefully to instructions.
  • Participates in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned with minimal notice.
  • Must be able to engage and communicate with military members, spouses or children as assigned, to accomplish job functions, and respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting; may traverse distances and work in outdoor weather and terrain; comply with site-specific requirements including immunizations where required.
  • Creates a presence on the installation in which service members and family feel the program is confidential; CYB counselors create a presence in child and youth settings and are available to children, youth and staff; line of site protocol when working with children.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with community resources and provides appropriate linkages.
  • Partners with Point of Contact to provide Adult and CYB services that address installation/facility needs; develops an excellent working relationship with the installation/facility Point of Contact.
  • Manages duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocol and staffs cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
  • Communicates with Regional Supervisors and participates in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on installations and facilities.
  • Responds to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the Point of Contact and approved by the Office of the Secretary of Defense program manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience meeting Magellan Military Family Life Counselor Child and Youth Behavioral criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
  • Prior military service and/or strong familiarity with military culture.
