Requirements
  • A current New York State Registered Nurse license to practice professional nursing is required.
  • An Associate’s degree from a state-accredited Registered Nursing program is required.
  • One to three years of clinical Registered Nurse experience in pediatrics or critical care/emergency nursing is preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required and may be obtained upon hire.
  • The ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from physicians, patients, family members, and employees is required.
  • The ability to administer medications through all routes and calculate medication doses is required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams platforms is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct ambulatory patient care, patient triage, assessment, care planning, and evaluation for children and adolescents with endocrine disorders and diabetes mellitus.
  • Collaborate with the Pediatric Endocrinology Care Team to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Triage patient phone calls and coordinate follow-up.
  • Assist with patient teaching for patients with Type 1 diabetes and endocrine disorders and provide patient support and advocacy.
  • Obtain and accurately record patient vital signs and report abnormal values to the treating provider.
  • Obtain and document medical, surgical, and social history and focused physical assessments related to clinic visits.
  • Administer medications and treatments in the clinic under the direction of a physician or advanced practice provider.
  • Participate in specialty-related in-office procedures under physician or advanced practice provider supervision and document results in the electronic health record.
  • Review and triage incoming test results, patient requests, and pharmacy renewals, and facilitate patient callbacks as needed.
  • Facilitate use of resources to meet patient outcomes and contribute to facility, New York State, and national quality metrics.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants according to licensure.
  • Adhere to Joint Commission regulatory requirements and internal compliance policies.
  • Orient and educate newly hired staff.
  • Complete continuous and annual education related to the clinic specialty.
  • Provide patients with education related to their visit, health, and wellness.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with an electronic health record, particularly Epic, is preferred.
