Requirements
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Must have at least one year of experience in court reporting.
  • Must hold the National Court Reporters Association Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification, or equivalent (i.e., certified by the state of performance, other appropriate licensure, certification, or proof of education).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related tools and technology; able to use a computer to communicate via email.
  • Technical proficiency to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
  • Able to perform physical requirements including bending, pulling, pushing, lifting up to 20 pounds, reaching, walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel may be required; travel coordinated in advance.
  • Credentialing and privileging requirements: appropriate credentials provided within one week upon request; eligible for Facility Access Authorization; able to submit to varying levels of background investigations; must be able to obtain background clearance as required by client.
  • Location of work shall be at or in proximity to Palo Alto VA Medical Center.
Responsibilities
  • Provide Court Reporting Services to the Westeran States Network Consortium.
  • Produce accurate, timely, appropriately bound and indexed transcribed testimony from witnesses.
  • Be punctual and present at relevant proceedings; provide necessary equipment and materials to perform duties.
  • Read portions of the transcript aloud during proceedings when requested; clarify inaudible statements.
  • Administer oaths as required; ensure that deposition transcripts are prepared by a duly authorized notary.
  • Ensure work products are thorough, accurate, and comply with established criteria.
  • Coordinate with client staff and adhere to milestones and delivery schedules.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Administrative Investigation Board processes, Equal Opportunity Hearing, Human Resources Management Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) or arbitration hearings is preferred.
  • Experience with AIB process or related government hearing procedures preferred.
  • Candidates who have background in security clearance processes or ability to obtain security clearance is a plus.
  • Knowledge or experience in court reporting equipment and technology beyond basic proficiency is a plus.
