GENERAL FUNCTION:
An Agilist II comes with 0-2+ years of full-time business experience and has some basic experience working on a Scrum or Kanban team or basic understanding of Scrum/Kanban Agile. After receiving the proper mentoring and training in Fifth Third Agile, Scrum and Scrum Mastering, an Agilist II is given an Agile Squad or Squads to support. They will work to ensure their Agile Squad understands and applies all Agile and Scrum values and principles. They will co-create working environments that enable their Agile Squad to form into a high-performing team, delivering sustained business value in an Agile manner. An Agilist II embodies agility using a servant leadership approach and leading by example while guiding their Squad on the application of the Scrum Framework. An Agilist II builds trusting environments where problems can be discussed and solved collaboratively. They facilitate Scrum events and activities as necessary and ensure the team is realizing value from them (including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Retrospective and Backlog Refinement). An Agilist II coaches the Product Owner and Development Team in effective Product Backlog management so that they have a common understanding of what is to be delivered, why it needs to be delivered, and what success looks like. They coach the Agile Squad in self-organization, continuous improvement, cross-functionality, risk identification, dependency management, conflict resolution, and software craftsmanship. They also coach others in the organization regarding Agile practices and impacts that actions have on the team and its self-organization.
An Agilist II possesses a learning mindset and help the Agile Squad continuously improve their interactions, practices, and process through valuable inspect and adapt practices using data from feedback loops, metrics and other information radiators. They identify opportunities for improvement and help those outside the team identify and understand which interactions are helpful and which are not. They model collaborative, courageous and open behavior for the Agile Squad as well as the organization.
The Agilist II and the Agile Squad are responsible and accountable for the identification of risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, and elevating concerns. They personally follow policies and procedures as defined and are accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues. Senior Agilists and the Agile Squad ensure that their actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank’s risk appetite, Agilists achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and
reporting risks of all types.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Understand principles of agility, Scrum/Kanban Frameworks, and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
• Understand how to use empirical data collection to benefit team and organization
• Understand the software development lifecycle
• Understand priorities and goal setting for teams and organizations in an agile business environment
• Collaborate with other team members; value team success over individual success
• Continuous learning of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, coaching, facilitating, emotional intelligence, team dynamics, listening for self and team
• Facilitate communication, cooperation, and collaboration inside and outside the Agile Team
• Work to improve the effectiveness of all roles of the Agile Team
• Shield Agile Team from external requests and interference to ensure the Agile Team is fully functional and productive
• Foster self-organization, learning, and growth within the Agile Team
• Build a trusting and safe environment
• Be a willing experimenter and employ feedback loops to improve yourself and your team
• Develop expertise in governance processes and Agile Lifecycle Management tool (Digital.ai)
• Develop leadership skills, specifically leading by example, servant leadership, and display behaviors that demonstrate the key mindset shifts associated with becoming agile
• Where possible, facilitate the removal of Agile Team impediments (e.g., cultural barriers, logistic challenges, coordination w/other Agile Teams and teams)
• When needed, escalate Agile Team impediments to appropriate organizational entities
• Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Six months – two+ years of full-time business experience preferred
• Scrum/Kanban Agile experience or basic understanding of Scrum/Kanban Agile
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience presenting inside of a team environment
• Coaching skills with the ability to communicate complex messages and teach new concepts
• Ability to facilitate conflict resolution
• Brings high-energy and passion to the job with a focus on building strong teams
• Ability to build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a sustainable & effective workplace
• Aptitude for learning, being coached; and identifying areas for self-improvement
• Ability to work within a matrixed organization
• Critical and creative problem-solving skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent in work experience
