Position Overview
The Associate Campaign Director, Major Gifts will be responsible for developing Major Gifts fundraising in consultation and collaboration with colleagues and medical leadership in identifying and gaining/enhancing the interest and involvement of individuals, foundations and corporations capable of making gifts at the $100K+ level. The Associate Campaign Director will also be responsible for achieving a fundraising goal.
In addition to building relationships and soliciting gifts the incumbent will also ensure excellent stewardship of past and future commitments to the campaigns, to maintain donor involvement, interest and support. Working closely with active volunteers, and program and hospital leadership, the Associate Campaign Director will be accountable for all aspects of the development, progress and delivery of a capital fundraising campaign, as well as supporting other key program areas.
It is important that the Associate Campaign Director be committed to success, but also comfortable in any setting and sensitive to nuance and making the right approach in each circumstance building on and enhancing the work that is already underway in these portfolios. Known for their professionalism and integrity, the candidate must also have the ability to work independently while maintaining commitment to the Major Gifts Team and Foundation as a whole.
Responsibilities:
- Identifying potential sources of major donors – individuals, foundations and corporations.
- Ensuring appropriate research is undertaken to provide background information on prospects to confirm that the prospect has the capacity to be a major donor.
- Working effectively with program leadership to better understand priorities and fundraising projects in order to successfully engage donors in supporting approved priorities.
- Engaging and building relationships with campaign cabinet volunteers, new prospects and soliciting support for the approved priorities.
- Working with members of the Major Gifts Team, the hospital community and volunteers, the incumbent will develop tailored programs/projects which are designed to gain/enhance the interest and involvement of the prospect.
- Overseeing the ongoing identification, monitoring and evaluation of a prospect’s capacity level as well as their readiness to give.
- Consulting with others involved with a prospect to determine the appropriate timing for solicitation. This is realized by ensuring that volunteers are properly briefed and prepared in advance of any contacts being made. Participates in solicitation calls, as appropriate.
- Ensuring development of proposals and stewardship reports for all donors in coordination with the communications team.
- Supporting all elements of fundraising related to the programs including collaborating with the events and annual program teams.
- Responsible for tracking and development of stewardship and reporting of deliverables for select transformational gifts.
- Prepare gift agreements as needed.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of planned giving vehicles to ensure maximum opportunities presented for gift commitments.
- Develop performance goals in consultation with the Campaign Director.
- Manage a direct report (Development Coordinator), including recruiting, orientation, training, setting performance expectations, allocating work, overseeing and ensuring the quality of outputs, measuring, reporting and discussing performance outcomes, performance management and encouraging professional development.
- Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Requirements:
- A relevant 4-year degree or, a relevant 3-year degree/diploma combined with a professional certification or, an equivalent combination of formal education and relevant experience.
- 5-7 years of experience working in fundraising or related field in progressive leadership roles.
- Demonstrated major gift development experience with donors including working closely with senior volunteers.
- Experience in a large, complex not-for-profit healthcare philanthropy organization is a definite asset.
- Exemplary attention to detail with excellent planning, organizational and time management skills
- Strong strategic aptitude with a demonstrated ability to problem solve and handle a diverse range of assignments with multiple timelines.
- Possess a professional and mature presence with evidence of leadership, sound judgement intuitiveness, tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in the full suite of Microsoft Office products and internet tools. Familiarity with and aptitude for Raiser’s Edge required.
- Member in good standing of AFP, AHP or CAGP is an asset.
Work Environment:
- Fast pace, service and results-oriented environment.
- May have some activity outside of the office to support meetings with volunteers and donors.
- The Foundation has a hybrid work model. Staff will be required to have a safe home office set-up 3-4 days per week and will be in the office for 1-2 days per week, (specifics to be planned with your manager.)
- Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues in all positions throughout the Foundation.
