StethO Sense offers unlimited analyses for Withings+ members. Heart recordings are taken at four standard positions, whilst lung recordings are taken at up to eight positions depending on age. BeamO guides users through the process with anatomical diagrams. The service complements Withings' existing Cardio Check-Up service, which provides cardiologist ECG reviews within 24 hours. Integrated into the Withings+ subscription, this feature relies on two medical artificial intelligence technologies, eMurmur and StethoMe, to detect certain heart murmurs and abnormal respiratory sounds. The goal is not to replace a medical consultation but to provide users with more information between appointments, enabling them to share recordings more easily with a healthcare professional. StethO Sense will be available starting October 1, 2026. "All parents know that moment: a nighttime cough with no way to tell if it's concerning. For the heart, signs can be even harder to detect. A heart murmur can go unnoticed for years. Until now, interpreting these sounds required an appointment with a healthcare professional. StethO Sense analyzes a recording made with BeamO in seconds, right at home and at any time, for children as well as for grandparents. It does not replace a doctor but provides additional health data you can present to them," said Livia Robic, product manager for BeamO at Withings. BeamO gains automatic analysis of its digital stethoscope. Presented by Withings as a portable health device for the entire family, BeamO combines multiple instruments in a single compact unit: thermometer, pulse oximeter, one-lead ECG, and digital stethoscope. StethO Sense specifically leverages the latter. Previously, BeamO allowed recording heart and lung sounds for storage or transmission to a healthcare provider. With StethO Sense, these recordings can now be automatically analyzed by artificial intelligence in seconds. From the Withings+ app, users select a cardiac or pulmonary recording and initiate its analysis. BeamO assists them with device positioning using an anatomical diagram. For the heart, four standard positions are suggested. For the lungs, Withings recommends six positions for children under 12 years old and eight for those 12 years and older. AI eMurmur searches for heart murmurs. To analyze heart sounds, Withings has partnered with eMurmur, a company specializing in artificial intelligence applied to auscultation. Its eMurmur Heart AI system analyzes recordings made with BeamO and categorizes them into three groups: absence of murmur, benign murmur, or abnormal murmur. The analysis also provides heart rate and a confidence score. Withings states that several blind prospective clinical studies have shown sensitivity and specificity of approximately 90% for detecting pathological murmurs. The eMurmur Heart AI technology also holds CE marking as a Class IIa medical device. It is designed for both healthcare professionals and individuals and can be used across all ages, from newborns to adults. However, these capabilities do not mean that a result obtained from BeamO constitutes a diagnosis on its own. Withings emphasizes the complementary nature of StethO Sense alongside an examination by a healthcare provider. StethoMe analyzes wheezes and crackles in the lungs. The other component of StethO Sense focuses on the lungs. Withings relies on the technology developed by StethoMe, which specializes in automated analysis of lung sounds. The algorithm can search for various respiratory sounds such as wheezes, rhonchi, fine crackles, or coarse crackles. It also analyzes respiratory rate, heart rate, and the ratio between inspiration and expiration durations. Withings cites an observational study in which an AI-assisted stethoscope identified moderate to severe crises with over 92% accuracy in children and 81% in adults. Like eMurmur, StethoMe also holds CE marking as a Class IIa medical device. Withings targets parents specifically. While StethO Sense can be used by the entire family, Withings strongly emphasizes its appeal to parents. The aim is to allow regular recording of pulmonary sounds in children during a cold, flu, or when unusual breathing occurs. This feature can also help track certain respiratory sounds in asthmatic children or monitor their evolution over time. However, caution is required regarding the interpretation of these results: identifying a wheeze or crackle does not equate to determining the cause of the symptom. In its statement, Withings presents this data as supplementary information that can then be communicated to the healthcare professional. This distinction is critical for a product that bridges consumer devices with functions traditionally associated with clinical examination. Heart murmurs can also be monitored over time. The same principle applies to cardiac monitoring. Instead of merely describing a symptom several days after its onset, a user can store recordings taken at different times and then present them during a consultation. Withings also envisions StethO Sense for adults wanting to monitor their heart health, as well as for athletes. The company mentions, for example, the relevance of auscultation in assessing certain cardiac conditions, while implicitly reminding users that detection via the app should lead, when needed, to additional medical evaluation. StethO Sense and Cardio Check-Up serve different purposes. Withings+ previously offered Cardio Check-Up, a service allowing an ECG to be examined by a cardiologist. The two functions remain quite distinct. Cardio Check-Up relies on a human interpretation of the ECG by a cardiologist within 24 hours, with up to four analyses per year. StethO Sense, on the other hand, offers automated and unlimited analyses through artificial intelligence of heart and lung sounds. Thus, a user can regularly perform auscultations with BeamO, then convey some results to their doctor or utilize Cardio Check-Up when a specific ECG analysis is desired. Withings is also preparing BeamO Pro for healthcare professionals. The technology will not be limited to the general public. Withings announces its integration into BeamO Pro, a version intended for healthcare professionals and care teams. The manufacturer specifically mentions nursing homes as a potential environment for use. The goal is to facilitate a standardized initial analysis of heart and lung sounds before determining if further examinations are necessary. Withings claims that studies related to AI-assisted auscultation have shown a reduction of 50 to 75% in inappropriate referrals to a cardiologist. Even in its professional version, AI is presented as an aid: the final clinical interpretation and medical decisions remain the responsibility of the professional. StethO Sense will be available only to Withings+ subscribers. StethO Sense will be available starting October 1, 2026, exclusively as part of the Withings+ subscription. BeamO owners who purchased their device before this date will receive a one-month free trial of Withings+. The same trial period will be offered to new buyers of BeamO starting October 1. With StethO Sense, Withings takes a significant step in its strategy: moving from merely allowing users to measure and record health data at home to automatically interpreting those data. Health technology company Withings has unveiled a new AI-powered service designed to help families analyse heart and lung sounds recorded at home and provide additional information that can be shared with healthcare professionals. The new StethO Sense service will launch on 1 October 2026 as part of Withings+, the premium membership tier within the Withings app. It works alongside the company's BeamO handheld health device, combining recordings from its digital stethoscope with third-party medical AI technology to analyse heart murmurs and respiratory sounds. Withings says the technology is intended to support - rather than replace - assessment by qualified healthcare professionals, with results designed to provide users with additional health information they can take to their doctor. AI analysis of heart and lung sounds. StethO Sense uses eMurmur Heart AI to analyse heart sounds and technology from StethoMe to assess lung recordings. Users can select a heart or lung recording through the StethO Sense section of the Withings+ app and request an analysis, with results returned within seconds. Heart recordings can be taken at four standard positions on the body, while lung recordings can be made at up to eight positions for adults and six for children. BeamO provides an anatomical diagram to guide users through the recording process. The heart analysis is designed to distinguish between no detected murmur, an innocent murmur and an abnormal murmur, as well as providing heart-rate information and a confidence score. For respiratory recordings, StethoMe's technology can analyse sounds including wheezing, rhonchi and fine and coarse crackles. It can also assess respiratory rate, heart rate and the inspiration-to-expiration ratio. Withings is positioning the technology partly as an additional monitoring tool for parents, particularly during cold and flu season. Respiratory illnesses and wheezing are common among young children. Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that around one in three children had experienced a wheezing illness before the age of three. The company says StethO Sense could allow parents to record respiratory sounds when children have coughs or other symptoms and track changes over time. It could also potentially support families managing asthma. Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting children, and symptoms can be exacerbated by respiratory infections. A six-month observational study published in the Annals of Family Medicine in 2023 examined home monitoring of asthma exacerbations among children and adults using an AI-assisted stethoscope. The researchers reported that the system identified moderate-to-severe attacks with accuracy of more than 92% in children and 81% in adults. StethO Sense can additionally identify and monitor abnormal respiratory sounds associated with conditions including pneumonia and bronchiolitis. However, the company stresses that its AI results are intended to assist diagnosis and should not be regarded as a substitute for clinical assessment. Tracking heart murmurs at home. Another potential application is monitoring heart murmurs. StethO Sense's cardiac analysis is provided by eMurmur, whose Heart AI technology analyses BeamO recordings and identifies whether a murmur appears absent, innocent or abnormal. Across blinded prospective clinical studies, the technology has demonstrated approximately 90% sensitivity and specificity for detecting pathological murmurs, according to Withings. eMurmur Heart AI is CE marked as a Class IIa medical device and can be used across age groups from newborn babies to adults. Heart murmurs are relatively common and are frequently harmless, but some can indicate an underlying heart valve problem. Research published in the European Heart Journal - Cardiovascular Imaging in 2024 involving more than 4,200 older adults found that more than a quarter had previously undiagnosed valvular heart disease. Another service evaluation involving digital auscultation in a community pharmacy found that pharmacists using eMurmur AI referred 70% more patients with non-trivial heart valve disease for echocardiography than GP referrals during the same period. Withings says allowing people to record heart sounds repeatedly could help them monitor changes rather than relying solely on recordings taken during occasional medical appointments. The technology could also have applications within sports health. Heart assessments form part of cardiovascular screening in sports medicine, where clinicians may be looking for signs of conditions including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Supporting, rather than replacing, healthcare professionals. The launch reflects the growing use of artificial intelligence and connected devices to move some elements of health monitoring beyond hospitals and GP surgeries. However, Withings has been careful to position StethO Sense as an additional source of information rather than an alternative to professional healthcare. The company's disclaimer states that AI results are "diagnosis-assisting only" and that final clinical assessment must be undertaken by a qualified healthcare provider. StethO Sense will also complement Withings' existing Cardio Check-Up service. Cardio Check-Up allows users to have an ECG reviewed by a cardiologist within 24 hours up to four times a year. StethO Sense instead provides unlimited AI-assisted analysis of heart and lung recordings for Withings+ subscribers. Recordings and results can subsequently be shared with a healthcare professional. Withings is extending StethO Sense beyond the consumer market through BeamO PrO, the professional version of the device aimed at clinicians and care teams. Previous research into AI-assisted auscultation has suggested the technology could also help healthcare professionals determine which patients require specialist investigation. Withings Medical launches clinical care service for Medicare patients under CMS's new ACCESS Model

Withings has launched Withings Medical, a clinical care service for Medicare-eligible patients in the US.
