Our National Rehabilitation Department is looking for a self-motivated individual to join their team as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. Reporting to the Vocational Supervisor, National Rehabilitation Department, you will be responsible for managing a vocationally-based rehabilitation case load. In this role, you will be responsible for helping our Plan Members return to alternate occupations at their own employer or to identify and prepare for appropriate alternate occupations with other employers. Individually designed return to work strategies will be determined by providing or referring for services, as necessary, regarding the identified need of the Plan Member such as vocational assessments and training, career planning and development, job development and job search techniques and community resources.
Position Responsibilities:
Developing, monitoring and implementing innovative and goal-oriented vocational rehabilitation strategies for claimants in receipt of disability benefits.
Contributing to the overall profitability of Group Disability by facilitating more timely return to work for claimants.
Work with Policyholders to develop creative return to work solutions
Budget management and financial and basic math skills to determine costs and understand the financial implications of the recommended work transition plan
Conduct vocational assessments
Vendor Management: ensuring the most effective and efficient programs are available to our Plan Members
Required Qualifications:
Experience as a vocational counselor would be considered an asset although extensive vocational rehabilitation experience (5 yrs) and several years of active rehabilitation experience will be considered
Direct experience using vocational assessment tools and techniques to assess job skills, create vocational goals and plans and to resolve factors impacting the return to work
Strong counseling, vocational and career planning skills are essential
Bilingual (French & English) is required - The successful candidate will be required to communicate in English and French in order to support clients from various jurisdictions outside of Quebec
Preferred Qualifications:
Related University degree, preference will be given to those candidates with Health Sciences related education
Accredited Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) and/or Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CCRC) eligibility
Completion or enrolment in related Vocational Rehabilitation courses would be an asset
Excellent knowledge of Federal and Provincial employment programs, public and private vocational retraining facilities and employment placement processes
Knowledge and understanding of local and regional labor market conditions and trends
Financial and basic mathematic skills to determine costs and understand the financial implications of a recommended work transition plan.
Ability to manage a budget.
Sound knowledge of Rehabilitation Industry Standards, Disability Insurance, medical terminology, and Disability and Rehabilitation management best practices as well as an understanding of job descriptions and job demands in relation to functional abilities
