Kaluza and BMW Group collaborate on smart EV charging

Kaluza and BMW Group collaborate on smart EV charging. * Smart energy platform Kaluza has partnered up with BMW Group, to deliver smart EV charging to its models through a direct integration. * Electric BMW and MINI owners in the UK can now benefit from fully automated smart charging at home, allowing charging sessions to take place when power from the grid is at its cheapest and greenest. * The move is a significant step forward for the smart charging sector. Smart charging takes a step forward with Kaluza and BMW Group agreement. What makes this partnership stand out is how BMW has brought its charging APIs in-house, handpicking only a select few trusted partners, such as Kaluza, to be directly integrated. By creating a direct digital link between the vehicle, charger, and grid, BMW and Kaluza are improving responsiveness, security, and accuracy across the entire ecosystem. With more and more drivers making the switch to electric vehicles as evidenced in record new EV registration figures, this partnership lays the foundation for a future where millions of electric cars can play a key role in an energy grid where reliability and renewable energy is at the top of the agenda. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology is set to become commonplace in an EV future, and this collaboration will assist with BMW Group's future goals to support the technology. BMW's 'Neue Klasse' platform is imminent, debuting in the new iX3, which will be the first BMW EV to support V2G charging. Sarah kenny, global head of OEM partnerships at Kaluza, commented: "BMW has been a fantastic partner to work with and the pace of delivery on both sides has been exceptional. From contract signing to go-live in just three months, this milestone demonstrates how rapidly meaningful change can happen when technology and automotive leaders collaborate. This is not just about charging vehicles more efficiently. It is about creating the infrastructure for an intelligent, flexible energy system that benefits everyone."

Kaluza Participates In Pg&E?S Dynamic Pricing Pilot Launch

Tuesday, 25 March 2025Advanced software platform for energy, Kaluza , has announced it has become an Automation Service Provider (ASP) for Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E’s) new ‘Hourly Flex Pricing’ (HFP) pilot in an expansion of Kaluza’s pioneering EV managed charging programme in California.Drivers can access the Hourly Flex Pricing pilot rate via a Kaluza-integrated chargepoint and an intuitive mobile app which enables EV drivers to easily ‘set and forget’ their charging. Kaluza’s platform optimises EV charging to periods of lower electricity demand and higher renewable energy availability, empowering customers to reap financial rewards while supporting the transition to a resilient, decarbonised grid. The integration with PG&E’s HFP pilot builds on the launch of Kaluza’s California Energy Commission-supported REDWDS program announced in February 2024 which enables customers to save up to 60 percent on their home energy bills. Championing inclusivity, 50 percent of Kaluza’s enrolled drivers are from disadvantaged or low-income communities, or both.Kaluza’s programme is the latest deployment of its next-generation software and demand response capabilities proven globally across the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. It will also include bidirectional Vehicle-to-Grid charging, enabling drivers to send energy from their EV’s battery to their home or the grid, increasing customer engagement, network resilience and cost savings while accelerating the shift to renewable power.“Kaluza strongly supports PG&E and other utilities rolling out new innovative rates that allow drivers to benefit from their active role in shaping a stable, renewable-powered system” said Jonathan Levy, Managing Director, US & Japan, Kaluza. “These time-of-use and type-of-use electricity rates are an important tool that software platforms can harness to deliver a win-win-win for customers’ energy bills, the grid, and the planet. We commend PG&E for embracing new technologies and approaches to transform for a rapidly evolving system and we’re delighted to add them to our growing roster of global utility clients
