Requirements
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse and two years of previous scrub experience, or completion of a Surgical Technology Program and surgical technologist certification.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Be available for call with a 30-minute response time.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation when required by the facility.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds and push or pull heavily loaded carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • Possess visual, hearing, and oral acuity, manual dexterity, and technical ability.
  • Wear lead for extended periods.
Responsibilities
  • Provide intraoperative care to patients by functioning as the scrub person and assisting the surgical team during operative procedures.
  • Use quality aseptic technique in unsterile and sterile operating-room roles.
  • Assist the circulating registered nurse in monitoring the technique of all operating-room personnel to maintain a sterile field.
  • Perform sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating registered nurse according to established guidelines.
  • Assist with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
  • Pass sterile instruments to the surgical team during surgical procedures.
  • Assist with transporting and positioning patients, including holding retractors and positioning operative limbs under the surgeon’s direction.
  • Prepare supplies and equipment for surgical procedures according to preference cards.
  • Assist with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor inventory and order and restock supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Remove out-of-date items and discard or reprocess them according to established guidelines.
  • Assist with general department cleaning duties.
  • Perform assigned equipment checks.
  • Assist with proper recording of patient charges.
  • Mentor the team and support the development of level-one technologists.

  • One year of Surgical Technology experience.
  • Advanced knowledge in the desired specialty.
