- Completion of a Sonography program.
- No experience is required.
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- One of the following credentials is required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with Abdomen Specialty; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialty; Registered Vascular Specialist; or Registered Vascular Technologist.
- The sonographer must be registered appropriately for the department in which they work.
- The role requires constant standing and walking; frequent vision, hearing, speech, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, patient movement, reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry; occasional handling of objects weighing 25–50 pounds and bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements; and rare kneeling and sitting.
- Set up and adjust all equipment and manually maneuver transducers to perform examinations.
- Implement safety standards and perform appropriate quality control procedures.
- Perform routine and complex studies and assist in a variety of imaging procedures.
- Recognize significant structures, artifacts, pathology, and equipment limitations.
- Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report potential problems or malfunctions to appropriate personnel; lock or tag out equipment when appropriate.
- Submit high-quality images and documentation promptly to the Picture Archiving and Communication System, ensuring image quality, correct labeling, and complete patient data and history.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and other departmental areas.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other assigned duties.
