Director of Pharmacy

This position is responsible for leading, developing and coordinating the operation of Pharmacy Services. The Director of Pharmacy Services shall develop services that provide and enhance quality patient care while promoting fiscal responsibility in the utilization of resources. Within the scope of budget responsibilities, the Director of Pharmacy Services shall direct the activities that provide for the purchasing, receiving, storage, delivery and distribution of medications from the pharmacy. The incumbent will be responsible for the regulatory compliance and optimization of the 340B program. The Director of Pharmacy Services shall plan, direct, monitor and evaluate the provision of distributive and clinical pharmacy services to all patient care areas.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:
1.    Responsible for all routine operations of the Department of Pharmacy Services.  Develops programs, goals and objectives consistent with those of the organizations overall strategic plan.
2.    Develops operational and capital budgets consistent with BID-Plymouth and BILH System, and manages operating expenses and key indicators within the budget.  Develops, implements, coordinates, monitors, evaluates and integrates pharmacy services that contribute to the overall success and financial viability of pharmacy services.  Uses creativity in the delivery of services and products in a highly competitive market.
3.    Ensures regulatory compliance and cost savings optimization of the 340B Program.
4.    Provides appropriate pharmacy representation on hospital and medical staff committees.  Serves as a professional resource for Physicians, Clinical Staff and Administration.  Collaborates with Medical Staff and Clinical Staff regarding pharmacy programs and services.
5.    Defines and resolves issues with the medication distribution system and continually evaluates performance relative to need for improvement of processes to assure the safe and appropriate delivery of medications to all patient care areas.  Plans, supports and leads Quality Improvement efforts for relevant pharmacy services.
6.    Manages human resources by recruiting, selecting, hiring and orienting qualified candidates.  Evaluates staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective and timely manner.  Develops core position hiring strategies and ensures opportunities for professional development.  Creates a cohesive pharmacy team committed to providing distributive, clinical and service quality to all customers.
7.    Develops and monitors departmental policies and procedures.  Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory agency standards.
8.    Strives to improve patient safety in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions, reports/documents medication errors and attends safety in-services, when appropriate.  
9.    Supports and exhibits behavior consistent with the philosophy and values of BILH.  Performs other related duties as assigned.  Assumes accountability for special projects as assigned.
10.    This position provides direct and indirect supervision to Pharmacy Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Residents, Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Interns, Pharmacy Supply Coordinator, Pharmacy Technicians and Secretary/Clerk.

Education/Experience Required:
1.    Requires current pharmacy licensure in the State of Massachusetts
2.    A degree in Pharmacy (advanced degree preferred) from an accredited College of Pharmacy, and a minimum of five years pharmacy management experience.  
3.    Must possess good organizational and computer skills.  
4.    Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, Physicians and other contacts. 

Registration/Certification:
1.    Current pharmacy licensure in the State of Massachusetts

Physical/Environmental Requirements
This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.

2.    Must be able to communicate effectively with all educational levels and with a variety of professional disciplines. 
3.    Must be able to deal with stress and function independently.

5.    Requires periods of prolonged sitting, standing, walking and when necessary, travel.  
6.    Work is generally performed in an office environment.
 

Pay Range:

$186,992.00 USD - $208,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
