Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree with 7+ years of related experience, a master's degree with 4+ years, or a PhD with 1+ year of related experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong backend software engineering experience building, operating, and delivering highly scalable, reliable, production-grade data-intensive services and platforms.
  • Proven experience with large-scale distributed systems, including designing and solving complex problems involving scalability, availability, performance, reliability, and fault tolerance.
  • Hands-on experience operating and tuning both an OLTP database, such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, and an analytical, columnar, or time-series store, such as ClickHouse, Druid, BigQuery, or Snowflake, including schema design, indexing, query tuning, and migration safety.
  • Production experience with streaming or queueing systems, such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Kinesis, including partitioning, consumer-group semantics, delivery guarantees, and backlog and dead-letter handling.
  • Experience scaling data-processing compute, including queue consumers, asynchronous task workers, or streaming jobs, with concurrency tuning, batching, backpressure, and throughput behavior under sustained load.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and solid experience with at least one additional backend programming language such as Go, Java, or C++.
  • Demonstrated performance engineering ability, including profiling, benchmarking, and load testing real systems and using measurements to make capacity, design, and cost decisions.
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies, containerized environments such as Kubernetes, and public cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, develop, debug, test, and maintain software with minimal guidance.
Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve the platform's relational, analytical or columnar, object-storage, and caching data stores, including schema design, migration safety, and retention.
  • Design and operate the streaming and queueing backbone that carries data from ingestion to queryable storage.
  • Build and scale compute and pipelines that move and transform data, including stream processors, writers, schedulers, and distributed worker fleets.
  • Own end-to-end data performance, including query and write latency, indexing and sharding strategy, and hot-path optimization.
  • Own the data platform capacity model, quotas, rate limiting, and multi-tenant isolation.
  • Drive cost efficiency across the data platform, including cost per unit of telemetry and cost attribution.
  • Build and own performance tooling for load testing, profiling, and benchmarking to validate scale and guide optimization.
  • Build observability instrumentation and telemetry pipelines so platform signals are correct, complete, and affordable.
  • Own data operations, including backup and restore, retention and deletion, replication, migration and backfill, and data-quality signals.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain production services and internal tooling in Python and/or Go using secure coding practices and automated tests.
  • Debug and resolve complex production issues across data stores, queues, and services, and contribute to monitoring, on-call support, and root-cause analysis.
  • Contribute to platform architecture direction and serve as a technical resource and mentor through design reviews, code reviews, and documentation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience running ClickHouse or a comparable columnar store at scale, including sharding and replication topology, materialized views, merge and mutation behavior, and retention and TTL mechanics.
  • Experience owning a capacity model or a FinOps practice involving cost per unit of telemetry, cardinality governance, and quota or rate-limit design.
  • Experience with multi-tenant isolation and noisy-neighbor mitigation in shared data systems.
  • Experience with backup and restore, tested disaster-recovery drills against stated RPO/RTO, and data retention or deletion compliance such as GDPR or DSR hard delete.
  • Experience building observability instrumentation and pipelines using OpenTelemetry, collectors, and metrics or tracing backends rather than only consuming dashboards.
  • Experience building or operating performance tooling for other engineers, including load-test harnesses, continuous profiling with tools such as Pyroscope or py-spy, flame-graph workflows, or benchmarking suites.
  • Experience with distributed task frameworks and worker orchestration such as Celery, Temporal, Flink, or custom consumer fleets at production scale.
  • Familiarity with streaming databases, stream-processing frameworks, or distributed query engines such as RisingWave, Flink, Spark Streaming, or Trino/Presto, and with model-serving infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting stateful systems in both cloud or SaaS and air-gapped or on-premises deployments.
  • Experience leading medium-sized features or projects end-to-end, mentoring engineers, and influencing technical decisions across teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to turn complex performance, capacity, and cost findings into clear recommendations for engineering and product partners.

Cisco quietly powers AI infrastructure with $9.3B in hyperscale orders and 21x forward P/E

Cisco has secured $9.3 billion in hyperscale AI orders for fiscal year 2026, positioning itself as a key player in AI infrastructure. The company's fourth-quarter networking product orders grew 40%, marking the eighth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. Revenue reached $17.3 billion in Q4, up 17.6%, whilst non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.22 beat estimates by 4.4%. Management projects AI infrastructure revenue of $7.5 billion in fiscal 2027. CEO Chuck Robbins cited "accelerating adoption of agentic AI" as driving a networking super cycle. Four major hyperscalers increased AI infrastructure orders in Q4. Cisco trades at a 21x forward price-to-earnings ratio, significantly below competitor Arista Networks' 70x trailing P/E. However, non-GAAP gross margin fell to 66.3% from 68.4% year-over-year due to product mix shifts towards high-volume AI hardware.

AMD partners with Cisco on AI infrastructure platform in Saudi Arabia

AMD announced a partnership with Cisco and Saudi Arabia's HUMAIN to launch an AI infrastructure platform in the kingdom. The collaboration combines AMD's Instinct MI355X GPUs and EPYC CPUs with Cisco's Silicon One networking architecture to deliver GPU-as-a-Service infrastructure. The platform will begin with 250 megawatts of AI deployment starting in 2027, scaling to 1 gigawatt by the decade's end. This gives AMD access to sovereign AI spending outside North America. AMD's data centre sales grew 107% in Q2. The company's stock is currently trading at more than twice its price from the start of this year. The partnership positions AMD to compete with Nvidia in regional cloud computing whilst diversifying revenue streams beyond US cloud providers.

Cisco expands Nvidia AI partnership with liquid cooling as adoption set to hit 60% by 2027

Cisco has expanded its AI infrastructure partnership with Nvidia, incorporating liquid cooling technology into its Secure AI Factory. Cisco adds Supermicro AI servers to Nvidia partnership as stock surges 45%

Cisco is partnering with Supermicro to add high-powered AI servers to its Nvidia-backed infrastructure offering. The systems will support Nvidia's next-generation platforms and are expected to become available in October. Cisco will sell the compute alongside its networking, security and observability products as a pre-validated system designed to make massive GPU clusters easier to deploy. Cisco has expanded its Secure AI Factory architecture through a partnership with Supermicro, adding rack-scale AI computing solutions to its portfolio. The collaboration delivers end-to-end infrastructure for massive AI workloads, from trillion-parameter training models to edge inferencing. The full-stack architecture addresses growing neocloud and sovereign cloud demand with an NVIDIA Cloud Partner-compliant solution featuring Cisco AI networking systems. Customers gain access to Supermicro's liquid- and air-cooled systems, enabling easier management of high-density AI clusters alongside non-AI workloads. The expanded offering includes rack-to-fabric liquid cooling with Cisco liquid-cooled AI networking systems and Supermicro's liquid-cooled servers. Cisco is the only NVIDIA technology partner using its own networking switches and operating system in an NCP-compliant solution. Cisco will begin offering Supermicro compute solutions as part of the Secure AI Factory with NVIDIA in October 2026.
