Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, with 10+ years of municipal engineering experience and a minimum of 7 years of project management experience, predominantly in Minnesota and/or North Dakota.
  • A professional engineering license to practice engineering within Minnesota and/or North Dakota.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
  • Ability to clearly articulate verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work required hours in the office or offsite.
Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of client relationships, including discussing potential project opportunities, reviewing requests for proposals and contracts.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships to win work and deliver municipal and infrastructure design and construction services.
  • Collaborate with other sector leaders regarding pursuits and staffing.
  • Follow and maintain strategic plan initiatives and goals for the Minnesota and/or North Dakota municipal sector and the company.
  • Mentor project engineers in contract development, project profitability, and risk management.
  • Participate in business development and marketing activities related to municipal services with potential and existing municipal clients.
  • Attend conferences and professional seminars to support growth of Minnesota and/or North Dakota municipal services.
  • Attend professional conferences with sector personnel to strategize marketing opportunities and increase company exposure.
  • Coordinate and direct project pursuit efforts, including prospecting, positioning, proposing, and performing for projects with significant potential impact on sector revenue.
  • Participate in municipal leadership team meetings.
  • Hire and recruit strategic positions that meet company or sector growth goals.
  • Provide the Municipal Sector Leader with financial and progress reports on Minnesota and/or North Dakota municipal operations.
  • Keep abreast of civil engineering technical advancements, technology, and concepts in the Minnesota and/or North Dakota municipal market and make recommendations to the Municipal Sector Leader.
  • Understand and follow the company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
  • Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with attention to detail.
  • Participate in professional organizations and community leadership programs.
  • Travel and stay out of town as required.
  • Work more than 40 hours per week when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience and working knowledge in municipal engineering, construction, and public works or utilities in Minnesota and/or North Dakota.
  • Experience and working knowledge with public agencies located in Minnesota and/or North Dakota.
  • Experience with developing business and managing personnel in the consulting engineering industry.
  • Involvement in appropriate professional organizations beneficial to Apex and the municipal sector.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other computer-aided design and drafting-based civil design software.
  • A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
