Requirements
  • The role typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and at least 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair requirements and engineering part prints.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with repair and manufacturing processes including machining, grinding, shot peening, welding, brazing, riveting, and coating processes including plasma spray.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
Responsibilities
  • Manage small projects or processes within the area of responsibility with limited oversight.
  • Communicate with internal and external parties, including customers and vendors, and attend regular meetings.
  • Review engineering specifications, orders, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and related information to maintain current knowledge of repair and overhaul methods and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain engineering work instructions and bills of material for new and existing programs.
  • Serve as an engineering representative within the value stream and provide technical leadership for repair and overhaul issues.
  • Liaise with Quality Control, Material, Production, and other departments to provide technical support for shop-floor issues.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve repair and overhaul methods.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and facilitate new drawings or corrections to drawings and documents.
  • Review drawings prepared by other engineering staff.
  • Lead investigations of defective, damaged, or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, and equipment; formulate corrective action plans and coordinate rework implementation.
  • Lead complex repair and overhaul engineering issues from problem identification through technical evaluation, corrective action, documentation, and implementation.
  • Provide technical guidance to lower-level engineers and review engineering work, documentation, and technical solutions.
  • Determine the causes of production defects and improve processes through updates to work instructions, tooling, processes, programs, or equipment; present investigation results to peers and management at the Corrective Action Board.
  • Evaluate damaged or nonconforming components and develop repair, rework, or disposition recommendations within established engineering authority.
  • Coordinate, review, and submit Salvage Repair Documents as required.
  • Maintain or oversee records to ensure engineering drawings and documents are current and engineering-related production problems and resolutions are documented.
  • Participate in technical reviews of tooling designs and requirements.
  • Write manufacturing plans and instructions in accordance with engineering specifications, quality requirements, and safety needs.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and develop solutions supporting production and project delivery.
  • Complete engineering reports and special projects as directed by the Manager of Engineering.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in repair and overhaul in an aerospace environment.
  • Experience with landing gear.
  • Strong technical writing and engineering documentation skills.
  • Experience in aerospace repair development, repair engineering, manufacturing engineering, or production engineering.
  • Experience in a production environment working with manufacturing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience with aerospace materials and processes, including machining, grinding, surface treatments, coatings, non-destructive testing, shot peening, and other special processes.
  • Experience with computer-aided design software such as CATIA, Siemens NX, or AutoCAD, and with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Pratt & Whitney invests $25M to expand Poland manufacturing, adding 120 jobs

RTX's Pratt & Whitney is investing $25 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Niepołomice, Poland. The site produces complex tubular assemblies for commercial and military engines. The expansion, supported by the Polish government through the Polish Investment Zone Programme, will add more than 120 jobs when it becomes operational in 2028. The facility currently manufactures precision components for multiple engine types, including the GTF engine for commercial aircraft and the F135 for F-35 fighter aircraft. This investment is part of Pratt & Whitney's $125 million commitment to Polish facilities this year, including a $100 million investment in Rzeszow. Poland represents RTX's largest investment base outside the United States, with more than 9,500 employees across its businesses in-country.

RTX's $289 billion backlog splits 60% commercial aerospace and 40% defence, a combination that benefits both divisions. The commercial segment's strong profitability allows the defence business to avoid risky fixed-price development contracts that have troubled competitors like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. This flexibility enabled RTX to terminate an unfavourable classified programme in 2024, taking a $575 million charge rather than pursuing losses. CEO Chris Calio said the contract fell outside the company's core competencies and predated RTX's formation. The arrangement works both ways. Defence earnings supported RTX through a costly powder metal coating issue affecting its geared turbofan engine. The structure allows RTX to focus on established defence solutions like Patriot missiles whilst maintaining investment in commercial aerospace during downturns.

RTX's Raytheon wins $22.9B contract to accelerate Tomahawk missile production

Raytheon, an RTX business, has secured a seven-year, $22.9 billion contract from the US Navy to accelerate production of Tomahawk cruise missiles. The agreement, part of the Department of War's Arsenal of Freedom initiative, will support ramping annual production to over 1,000 missiles. RTX has already tripled Tomahawk deliveries in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The contract will enable the company to expand capacity and work with hundreds of suppliers nationwide to scale output. Tomahawk cruise missiles provide long-range strike capabilities, allowing the Navy to target hostile forces from hundreds of miles away across multiple launch platforms.

RTX's Raytheon demonstrates new unmanned undersea vehicle with 2,000 nautical mile range

Raytheon, an RTX business, and Composite Energy Technologies have successfully demonstrated HADALUS, a new unmanned undersea vehicle, during a US Navy exercise. The 34-foot UUV completed at-sea missions whilst submerged, marking the first time the Navy has witnessed this integrated capability in water. HADALUS features a carbon-fibre design with over 2,000 nautical miles of endurance. The vehicle costs roughly one-third to one-fifth of comparable long-endurance vehicles. The companies progressed from conceptual sketch to working prototype in under 18 months. The demonstration showcased the UUV's ability to perform detect, reacquire, and engage functions within a single mission. "By tightly coupling design, integration and at-sea experimentation, we've proven we can bring new autonomous solutions to the fleet quickly and cost-effectively," said Jen Gauthier, vice president at Raytheon.

RTX's Raytheon installs first SPY-6(V)4 radar array at Wallops Island for US Navy destroyer upgrade

Raytheon, an RTX business, has installed the first SPY-6(V)4 radar array at the Surface Combat Systems Center at Wallops Island, Virginia. The installation marks a milestone for the US Navy's Flight IIA Destroyer modernisation programme. The land-based test facility will support radar testing and power system integration before installation on USS Pinckney (DDG 91), the first ship scheduled for the SPY-6(V)4 backfit from late 2026 to 2028. Testing will begin later this year and continue through mid-2028. SPY-6 variants are already onboard two commissioned Navy ships, with 11 additional vessels undergoing testing. Over the next decade, more than 50 Navy ships are expected to deploy SPY-6 radars. Raytheon has invested $800 million in manufacturing facilities and aims to double production by 2028.
