Responsibilities
  • Work with underwriters and senior underwriters, divisional management and actuarial to implement the underwriting strategy and keep them informed of progress and developments
  • Demonstrate sound and conservative underwriting judgement
  • Apply appropriate underwriting practices including authority and guidelines control
  • Prioritise the team’s underwriting strategy and adhere to it at all times
  • Apply appropriate underwriting practices including authority and guidelines control
  • Apply appropriate risk management practices including aggregations and guideline controls and any measures required to limit Markle’s exposure
  • Travel to represent Markel as required by Divisional Management
  • Actively keep knowledge and skills up-to-date through courses and seminars, where appropriate.
  • Positively contribute towards the team’s underwriting strategy
  • Attend regular broker and client meetings and travel to represent Markel as required by class head
  • Develop strong relationships with existing and new brokers
  • Actively seek business opportunities
