Requirements
- Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required registered nurse credential.
- Have twelve months of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment.
- Hold Texas registered nurse state licensure or compact licensure and obtain a permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing Texas residency.
- Hold Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Hold Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association within four months.
- Obtain National Institute of Health Stroke Scale certification from the American Heart Association within four months.
- Obtain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute within four months.
- Demonstrate the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
- Demonstrate sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential job functions, particularly those affecting patient or employee safety or security.
- Effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers using a customer-service focus and positive-language principles.

Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care to a diverse patient population, including patients with varied and complex needs.
- Conduct nursing assessments and assist with examinations and treatments.
- Provide patient education and maintain medical records.
- Communicate and collaborate with physicians and the interprofessional healthcare team to coordinate quality care and treatment outcomes.
- Use technology, administer medications, perform procedures, and manage emergencies while advocating for patient and family rights.
- Participate in or lead unit and shared-governance initiatives and contribute to service-line or hospital-wide initiatives with management.
- Serve as a charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees when assigned.
- Use therapeutic communication, including active listening and teaching, to establish relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team and collaborate on plans of care.
- Implement staff education for patient populations and unit processes and coach and mentor staff and students.
- Follow patient- and family-centered care standards and cultural-diversity and inclusion principles.
- Develop, update, and communicate plans of care, including discharge plans, with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team using the nursing process.
- Prioritize care according to patient needs, abilities, and preferences and advocate to resolve clinical and ethical concerns.
- Provide patient teaching, evaluate comprehension, and adapt teaching methods.
- Follow nursing-process standards, regulatory requirements, and professional-practice standards.
- Identify practice improvements using research-based evidence to achieve core-measure and patient-safety outcomes with accurate documentation.
- Provide and modify care for complex patients and coordinate care based on patient-condition evaluations.
- Improve quality and safety through near-miss reporting and collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team.
- Manage time, document care promptly, minimize incidental overtime, and prioritize daily tasks.
- Provide input into unit resource utilization, including capital and operational budget needs.
- Contribute to department financial targets by reducing length of stay and optimizing efficiency.
- Identify and present innovations and improvements in patient care or unit operations using evidence-based literature.
- Offer solutions through evidence-based practice, performance-improvement projects, and shared-governance activities.
- Champion new care pathways or service-line implementation and support practice-change initiatives.
- Research changes and present options to shared governance and leadership.
Desired Qualifications
