Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • An Associate's degree in Health Science, Biology, Chemistry, or another science-related field is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Experience in a large, complex health care or academic setting is preferred.
  • Understanding of medical or laboratory terminology is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and faculty at all levels is preferred.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Provide routine technical support for a research laboratory or facility.
  • Collect, analyze, and process laboratory samples or research data.
  • Perform tests using routine techniques and methods.
  • Assist with report writing.
  • Set up equipment and materials for course instruction.
  • Collaborate on the design of new projects, techniques, or methods.
  • Assist with technical procedures and experiments according to specific instructions and protocols when initiating and conducting research experiments.
  • Set up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests, research, or process control.
  • Collect, record, tabulate, calculate, interpret, synthesize, and analyze basic research data.
  • Assist with purchasing routine laboratory supplies, collect receipts, and monitor expenditures.
  • Support the care and feeding of animals and the cleaning and maintenance of cages when needed.
  • Interact with, observe, test, and calculate research specimens or subjects when needed.
  • Ensure adherence to research protocols and requirements.
  • Clean and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Plan and modify research techniques, procedures, tests, equipment, or software.
  • Extract data for follow-up, perform inventory control, order supplies, and record experiments when needed.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks.
  • Work closely with staff to understand compliance principles, patient confidentiality, and other ethical obligations involved in conducting research.
  • Become familiar with industry standards, best practices, and trends in health sciences.
  • Attend and participate in weekly laboratory meetings and, when appropriate, institutes and seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
