Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Assistant is required, including a minimum of one year as a Medical Assistant at Lahey.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are required to communicate with patients, family members, physicians, health care providers, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills are required to meet patient needs and optimize practice workflow.
  • Advanced computer skills are required to input and retrieve clinical information and patient registration and appointment information.
  • Critical thinking and good judgment are required when performing tasks.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize daily assignments are required.
  • Staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality, safe clinical care under general supervision and in collaboration with a clinical overseer where applicable.
  • Assist with patient care and operational flow by guiding clinical team members and performing clerical and clinical duties within the scope of training and practice.
  • Act as a team lead by resolving issues and triaging problems.
  • Serve as an Epic expert and first point of contact for basic Epic-related questions from Medical Assistants and clinical staff.
  • Assist with troubleshooting Epic-related issues using documented best practices.
  • Act as a first-level practice resource for day-to-day process questions and new practice initiatives.
  • Proactively solve basic issues and escalate issues before they become more serious.
  • Accept assignments and projects that maintain regulatory compliance and improve quality-improvement processes.
  • Precept new Medical Assistants by facilitating orientation, scheduling orientation activities, and tracking completion of required activities.
  • Mentor and train new staff on practice policies and procedures.
  • Mentor and coach other Medical Assistants to help them meet Medical Assistant functions and performance expectations.
  • Organize work to enhance patient satisfaction and provider efficiency.
  • Coordinate daily needs and schedules with providers by reviewing provider schedules and anticipating patient, provider, and appointment needs.
  • Keep visits running on time and communicate delays with patients.
  • Manage same-day schedule additions.
  • Ensure exam rooms are properly supplied and support completion of patient forms.
  • Develop, follow, and sustain workflows, standard work, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide safe patient care through organizational skills that maintain and coordinate delivery of quality care for assigned patients and families.
  • Participate in a culturally competent plan of care that identifies patient problems, expected outcomes, and preventive measures.
  • Deliver care specific to the patient's age.
  • Care for patients as delegated by the provider, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse within scope of practice and competence.
  • Contribute patient- and family-provided information to assessment of health status.
  • Evaluate intervention outcomes within scope and follow directions on a modified plan of care.
  • Collaborate with physicians, other health care providers, ambulatory support staff, other disciplines, and department leadership to deliver patient care and improve medical assisting operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Medical Assistant certification such as AAMA, CCMA, RMA, or NCMA is preferred and required upon promotion and must be maintained.
