Requirements
  • A master's degree in library science from an American Library Association-accredited institution, or a bachelor's degree in library science or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience related to the areas of assignment, including one year of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Two to four years of library or customer service experience.
  • Experience directly supervising three or more people.
  • Experience leading a department, division, or team.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage time wisely.
  • Ability to interpret, use, teach, and explain the use of library resources.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office, including Teams and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of management principles involved in leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks and demands in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Significant and relevant experience providing customer service or delivering instructions.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic plans and goals for the Access Services team, direct the team, and help it accomplish division goals.
  • Manage the activities of the Access Services Department by planning, implementing, administering, and evaluating projects and services affecting library operations campus wide.
  • Provide budget input in assigned functional areas.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, consortia, and related groups to communicate information regarding services, information resources, continuing education opportunities, and other pertinent information.
  • Ensure accountability and stewardship of operational, financial, and human resources in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.
  • Supervise and lead the Access Services team of five full-time and four part-time team members, including hiring, training, evaluations, and scheduling.
  • Train Access Services student employees and supervise their work assignments.
  • Create and maintain Access Services training materials for library team members.
  • Lead projects by assigning tasks, monitoring work quality and quantity, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Manage and maintain the course reserves collection, interlibrary loan, stacks maintenance, new books, daily Access Services tasks, fines and fees, lost items, the computer lab, and printers.
  • Manage the Circulation Desk and serve as a first point of contact for patron questions, technology issues, locating materials and resources, and library-account assistance in person or by phone.
  • Manage interlibrary loan services, oversee borrowing and lending for the University of Tampa community, apply interlibrary loan principles and copyright law, update WorldShare policies, and track developments in the interlibrary loan community.
  • Communicate with Campus Safety as needed to maintain library and patron security.
  • Oversee daily collection and distribution of mail from the campus Post Office.
  • Maintain the circulation and integrity of the collection and ensure accurate records.
  • Act as the final arbitrator for individual patron complaints or concerns regarding circulation services.
  • Run and review fines and fees reports, ensure accurate submissions to the Bursar Office on time, and manage fines and fees issues.
  • Assist public patrons and create and maintain service guidelines for people outside the University of Tampa community.
  • Respond to after-hours calls on evenings and weekends as needed to assist staff.
  • Maintain Access Services modules in the library software, run usage reports, and track department statistics.
  • Maintain Access Services information on the library website.
  • Participate in developing, recommending, and administering division policies, procedures, and processes with managers of multiple divisions; implement and monitor compliance.
  • Communicate with other library departments and bridge coordination between Access Services and other departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the Alma integrated library system.
  • Knowledge of OCLC WorldShare Interlibrary Loan.
  • Knowledge of library systems and software, including circulation functions.
  • Experience working at and managing an academic library circulation desk.
  • Experience in an academic library.
