Requirements
  • Teamwork skills are necessary to solve problems in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to scope projects including requirements capture and initial design trades given open-ended problems
  • Ability to trade architectures, configurations, and topologies of both heatshield and propulsion systems
  • Familiarity with heatshield systems, materials, fabrication and testing
  • Experience with the full design, build, test, fly cycle for satellite reentry and propulsion systems
  • Familiarity with CAD and lifecycle management software
  • Experience with spacecraft engine design, testing, debugging, and manufacturing
  • Familiarity with igniter types, propellant types, and thruster configurations, and propulsion architectures
  • Hands-on experience testing rocket engines and/or cold gas in-space thrusters
  • Familiarity with heat shield paradigms, materials, manufacturing, and quality assurance
  • Understanding of system impacts to component design decisions including packaging, thermal, environmental, and loads
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of the U.S. to conform with U.S Government space technology export regulations under ITAR
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 9+ years experience with launch vehicle and/or satellite engine design, testing, and flight operations
  • Familiarity with heatshield materials, fabrication, quality assurance, and performance testing
  • Hands-on project experience with chemical propulsion system testing for spacecraft
  • Experience with 0-D and 1-D thermal and fluid modeling
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft and/or launch vehicle propulsion systems
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) the candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
  • Experience within the aerospace and/or tech industry
  • Experience with hypersonics and advance composite materials for aerospace applications
  • Strong fluid flow and heat transfer fundamentals, specifically propellent injection elements/methods, combustion performance parameters, etc
  • Experience with CFD or fluent is not required, but value-added
  • Experience with composites, especially for use in aerospace and hypersonic applications
  • Expertise in data science
  • Professional experience using Siemens NX (Unigraphics)
  • Great attitude in the face of extreme technical and schedule challenges
  • Experience making risk evaluations and/or supporting root cause investigations

Responsibilities
  • The spacecraft vehicle team is responsible for designing, building, and flying the Varda spacecraft
  • As the Principal Spacecraft Engineer you will be responsible for developing the design, materials, systems, and infrastructure necessary to produce reentry vehicles at a high rate
  • This person will also be responsible for developing and managing initial trades on materials and systems, build/buy trades throughout the supply chain, architectural trades, manufacturing processes, fabrication and quality assurance procedures, and test and operation plans
  • As Principal, you will be a technical lead within the Vehicle Team, reporting directly to the Head of Vehicles
