Requirements
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in engineering, instrumentation, robotics, electronics, or optics
  • Minimum 1 year hands-on experience with advanced microscopy
  • Any 'extra-curricular' evidence of exceptional abilities in the disciplines above, such as hobby projects in robotics, electronics, optics, etc. is extremely welcome
  • Hands-on experience operating, aligning, or maintaining optomechanical instruments
  • Experience coding for hardware control, automation, and instrumentation
  • Experience with electronics for instrumentation
  • Experience or interest in applying 3D image processing and analysis algorithms in python
  • Collaborative spirit and teamwork skills are absolutely essential
  • Resources to disrupt and innovate at the frontiers of our knowledge of biology and disease
  • A collegial and collaborative environment consisting of diverse expertise
  • Existing collaborations within CZ Biohub: Technology Platforms (Bioengineering, Computational Microscopy, Data Science, Genomics & Mass Spectrometry), Infectious Disease, and Quantitative Cell Science
  • Access to collaborators, resources and facilities at our three partner universities (Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco) and at partner organizations in the Bay Area and beyond

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, align, and continue to customize state-of-the-art light sheet microscopes for different experimental conditions to enable robust live imaging of zebrafish embryos and larvae on multiple state-of-the-art instruments
  • Work with biologists as an application specialist, helping in experimental design, microscope automation, data handling, and image processing
  • Collaborate with optical engineers in the design and construction of new customized light sheet microscopes
  • Work with data scientists to understand and apply new methods for image analyses
  • Perform computer hardware and software troubleshooting (e.g. drivers, software installation/troubleshooting, PCI card installation, etc.)
