Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • The employee must meet the qualifications to provide care for patients in the assigned clinical area's specific age range.
  • The employee must attend a minimum two-week residency program/orientation requiring full-time hours during the initial orientation period.
  • The employee must comply with all organization policies, procedures, and job-specific obligations.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clerical duties and direct patient care activities according to unit needs.
  • Provide patient care within the nursing assistant scope of practice and the multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Identify, observe, and document patients' physical needs, and report changes in condition to licensed personnel promptly.
  • Obtain and maintain specimen integrity according to policy, procedure, and physician orders.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene and changing linens, and fulfill delegated continuity-of-care responsibilities.
  • Provide one-to-one patient safety observation when assigned.
  • Process specimens accurately and transport them promptly to the laboratory.
  • Perform point-of-care patient testing and maintain point-of-care instruments and quality control.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and supplies and take corrective measures as needed.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students.
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths, and facilitate patient throughput activities.
  • Transcribe and process orders according to unit standards.
  • Release and confirm ordered tests with appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate patient transportation to multiple tests.
  • Obtain and communicate electronic information relevant to the nursing unit, including scheduling tests and faxing consults.
  • Order stationery, floor stock, patient supplies, and individual nursing supplies.
  • Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment, take corrective measures, and schedule maintenance for computers, fax machines, and phones.
  • Transport non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
  • Transport blood products to and from the Blood Bank as needed.
