About Instrumental:
Manufacturing represents half of the world’s GDP, but 20 cents of every dollar spent is wasted on things like scrap, rework, product returns, mistakes, experiments, and underutilized human resources. Put simply: solving problems in manufacturing is too hard, too inefficient, and too analog.
Instrumental is a software company with the mission of eliminating half of that unnecessary waste by accelerating product maturity in manufacturing. We empower hardware companies to optimize their factories through artificial intelligence and unprecedented data access. Thanks to Instrumental, startups and Fortune 500 hardware companies alike are increasing yields, accelerating time-to-market, and reducing the frequency of recalls and production delays.
About the Role:
The QA Engineer is responsible for developing test specifications and methodology that deliver the highest quality product to Instrumental’s customers. The testing domain spans hardware as well as our edge computing stack all the way into the app. The ideal candidate will have experience testing hardware along with the complete end-to-end user experience testing.
What’s great about this role:
- Broad technical scope: As a QA engineer, you’ll get exposed to the full gamut of our edge platform tech stack: hardware, desktop applications, web-applications, and ML.
- Cross-functional role: At Instrumental, we are firm believers that the best products are built cross-functionally. You’ll participate in our innovative approach to product development and contribute in each phase.
- Deep growth potential: As the first full-time QA engineer, you’ll be responsible for helping to build our approach and systems for a future QA team.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience writing and manually executing test cases
- Strongly aligns testing against priorities of project and business
- Has experience software-based web and/or mobile applications
- Has experience or is willing to learn hardware testing
- Cares deeply about the end-to-end user experience and is willing to flag issues even when they’re “to spec”
- Is comfortable working in a highly cross-functional environment and willing to participate in product, UX, and engineering design sessions to ensure QA concerns are addressed early
- Is super confidant in communicating with stakeholders and the wider company
- Can readily work within a Linux environment
- Has an incredibly high attention to detail
- Is able to do basic statistical calculations in a testing capacity
- Has basic SQL and/or scripting capabilities (SQL, shell, Python, etc.)
This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in product testing or mechanical engineering to make a switch to the world of software testing.
We’re a growing team that consistently works collaboratively, is supportive of each other, and is highly energized by the opportunity for large impact.
