Requirements
  • Nursing students must have prospective Spring, Summer, or Winter graduation dates and be eligible to sit for the NCLEX and obtain licensure before the internship starts.
  • Nursing students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.2 at the time of application or a confirmed senior practicum in an intensive care unit at the time of application.
  • Experienced registered nurses who have not worked in a critical-care setting are eligible.
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Be a registered nurse with a current license to practice in Pennsylvania or New Jersey for the Warren Campus.
  • Meet the specified physical and sensory requirements, including sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, patient transport, bending, reaching, and visual, auditory, and tactile abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to critically ill patients through the nursing process by assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, evaluating, and documenting the effects of care.
  • Work cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient-team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
  • Maintain confidentiality of materials handled within the network and ensure proper release of information.
  • Demonstrate the network’s service-excellence standards in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Comply with network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • Demonstrate competency in patient assessment, treatment, growth and development knowledge, and age-appropriate communication.
  • Upon successful completion of the program, practice in a St. Luke’s critical-care unit caring for patients across their lifespans.
