Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or a vocational school of practical nursing.
  • One to two years of experience preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and the Internet.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current nurse license.
  • Ability to follow federal, state, local, company, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use protective equipment, follow infection control protocols, and practice universal precautions and life-safety measures.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise, provide, and direct nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Make advanced-level observations, report and record observations appropriately, form nursing judgments, and carry out nursing actions based on scientific nursing principles.
  • Follow established nursing practice standards and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Interpret existing policies for staff, families, and physicians.
  • Perform daily rounds and develop and implement comprehensive care plans based on each resident’s needs.
  • Pass medications and treatments according to established policies and procedures; order and credit medications as needed; and maintain accurate accounting of stock medications, unit-dose medications, and narcotics.
  • Follow staffing guidelines, make nursing assignments, and provide accurate reports on residents’ conditions to ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor resident diets, supervise meal trays and snacks, monitor resident intake, and assist with meal-tray service, feeding, and snack service.
  • Follow facility admissions procedures and communicate admissions to other departments, staff, physicians, and service providers.
  • Ensure employees follow the chain of command consistently with personnel policies.
  • Assign nursing assistants and ensure the efficient completion of their assignments.
  • Supervise, document, and correct poor performance by nursing assistants and inform Unit Managers or the Director of Nursing about performance problems.
  • Participate in nursing-assistant performance evaluations, provide counseling, coaching, and training, and present performance evaluations to staff.
  • Report changes in residents’ physical or mental conditions promptly.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service sessions, interdisciplinary-team meetings, and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Collaborate with staff across departments to maintain quality environmental conditions for residents and staff.
  • Document resident information, changes, and notifications to the power of attorney and physician accurately, timely, and confidentially.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments as assigned.
  • Verify that changeover medication administration records and treatment administration records are updated accurately and that required changes are made to new records by the first of each month.
  • Know resident rights and help residents exercise and protect those rights.
  • Report resident complaints to the supervisor in charge while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensure resident safety, including verifying that Wanderguard tabs and bracelets are properly attached and functioning.
  • Demonstrate proper equipment use and report equipment needs or repairs.
  • Complete annual education requirements, including compliance, privacy, security, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act training.
  • Report allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds or resident property, and other corporate-compliance concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
