Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required; vocational training through a STEM program, career center, or technical trades training is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of industrial welding experience is required.
  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and print reading is required.
  • Basic understanding of hand tools and layout and inspection tools is required.
  • The candidate must be able to perform robotic welder preventative maintenance, including replacing torches, liners, and wire drive systems; greasing and replacing batteries for external axes; greasing robotic joints; maintaining air cleaner units, collectors, and filters; and following a weekly preventative maintenance schedule.
  • The position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the shift, with frequent lifting or moving of items over 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
  • The candidate must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise levels.
  • The candidate must be eligible to work in the United States through U.S. citizenship, a work visa, or H1B sponsorship.
  • No travel is required.
Responsibilities
  • Set up welders and perform gas tungsten arc welding and gas metal arc welding on mild steel joints; read and apply basic weld symbols; distinguish material types; and change wire and gas for regular operations.
  • Set up and troubleshoot projection welders, change settings, and understand weld fixture locations and the return process.
  • Perform first-piece table layouts, apply basic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to interpret engineering drawings, and verify part conformance.
  • Troubleshoot prototype welding build issues, process job folders, complete quality documentation, assemble prototype fixtures, and verify fixtures before quality approval.
  • Load and run robotic welders in automatic mode, repair assemblies after robotic welding for BSR functions, recover robots from fault conditions, and restart programs.
  • Interpret coordinate measuring machine reports, troubleshoot using coordinate measuring machine data, adjust robot points and parameters, apply intermediate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and drive corrective actions.
  • Change programs from the programmable logic controller screen and perform fixture changeovers for production and new part launches.
  • Make advanced robotic welder adjustments, including harmonizing and timing, set up new fixtures, and troubleshoot robotic welders independently or with assistance from Miller.
  • Use offline programming software to prepare jobs, troubleshoot builds using coordinate measuring machine reports, obtain a good first piece, and implement process improvements.
  • Support the quality assurance team with part layouts and inspections, complete required quality documentation, and use layout and inspection tools to verify dimensional conformance.
  • Assist with the design, development, implementation, setup, and validation of production fixturing for production part launches.
  • Follow company and department safety procedures, work safely, support workplace safety, work overtime as needed, and maintain schedule flexibility.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with robotic welding using Motoman, Panasonic, or Fanuc systems, including point touch-ups, adjustments, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with programmable logic controller programming and robotic system calibration.
  • Advanced geometric dimensioning and tolerancing knowledge and advanced layout and inspection procedures.
  • Experience with offline programming, computer-aided design, SolidWorks, and weld fixture design.
