A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Management, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, or another human services-related field, plus at least two years of employment in youth detention, corrections, and/or community residential services, including at least one year requiring direct and continuous supervision of juvenile offenders.

Responsibilities
Monitor work schedules of all assigned unit staff to ensure accountability within the assigned unit.
Assist in planning monthly unit meetings with the assigned Team Leader, Youth Development Specialists, and Recreational Specialists to review JTDC initiatives, policies and procedures, program scheduling, and related requirements and expectations.
Participate in Quality of Life reviews of unit programs and services to promote accountability for conditions of confinement, resident scheduling, and record keeping and documentation.
Provide critical analysis of unit activities to the Team Leader concerning incidents, resident rule violations, resident grievances, use of the behavior management continuum, and related trends, and recommend appropriate adjustments.
Participate in operational and program committees and recommend policy and program initiatives that contribute to the JTDC mission, goals, and core values.
Evaluate the work of assigned unit staff and develop strategies to improve accountability and work performance.
Initiate corrective actions proportionate to noncompliance or performance issues and mediate disputes to promote reconciliation and professional growth and development.
Identify training responsive to the continuing professional development of staff.
Establish and ensure clear expectations for staff compliance with all policies and procedures in the assigned unit.
Develop methods to improve effective and efficient communication of JTDC policies and promote staff feedback, analysis, collaborative decision-making, and problem-solving.
Provide constructive individual feedback to supervisory and line staff regarding the JTDC mission, goals, and new initiatives.
Lead by example and establish an environment that promotes professionalism, accountability, communication, and teamwork.
Complete an approved 80-hour course of study or training related to youth in juvenile confinement within six months of employment.

Company Overview
The Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) provides safe and temporary housing for youth ages 10 – 18 with pending legal action in the Cook County Courts. The JTDC is dedicated to providing its youth with leadership, structured care, and supervision through a balanced approach of creative programming and services that teach responsibility, accountability, and sensitivity. Each member of the JTDC staff is actively encouraged and supported in pursuit of creative participation, personal well-being, and professional development.
As the largest juvenile detention center in the nation, the facility contains five major departments and various offices consisting of 600+ employees who serve an average daily population of 280+ residents.
The Assistant Team Leader is a JTDC middle manager with one level of professional staff under his/her administrative direction or management, and who will assist in leading a JTDC Unit consisting of forty-eight (48) to fifty-four (54) residents and thirty-two (32) subordinates.
Typical Duties
