  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program or accredited Nursing Program, or certification or registration as a Medical Assistant.
  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal parameters that identify clients at risk.
  • Ability to provide patient care according to standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to triage telephone calls appropriately.
  • Ability to provide patients with accurate teaching and direction.
  • Ability to obtain vital signs, weight, age, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory history, and chief complaint.
  • Ability to observe abnormal patient signs and symptoms, communicate patient conditions to physicians, and document them in the medical record.
  • Ability to perform laboratory tests and treatments as prescribed.
  • Ability to maintain laboratory logs and electronic medical records.
Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care for facility clients directly and through delegation.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of healthcare services throughout patient visits.
  • Complete, update, and maintain accurate medical records and enter charge information into the electronic medical record for billing.
  • Initiate patient contact and prepare patients for examinations.
  • Communicate patient conditions to physicians and document them in medical records.
  • Ensure patients understand physician instructions upon discharge.
  • Assist physicians with testing and treatment procedures, including applying splints and dressings.
  • Perform and follow through on physician orders.
  • Assist with sample medications and sample medication logs.
  • Arrange and administer necessary patient testing or admission, obtain required referrals, retrieve test results, and notify patients.
  • Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals.
  • Obtain appropriate consents before invasive procedures or immunizations.
  • Distribute patient education materials and assist with patient instruction regarding treatment and medication usage.
  • Ensure patient-care areas, equipment, and materials are stocked and maintained.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment for clinical care areas.
  • Keep examination rooms clean, organized, and free of waste according to cleaning protocols.
  • Ensure instruments are sterile and equipment is in working order.
