Requirements
  • Hands-on experience contributing to a design system at scale by designing components, defining variants and application programming interfaces, modeling tokens, and maintaining Figma libraries used by more than 40 designers.
  • Strong understanding of design token systems, semantic naming, and theming and multi-brand patterns.
  • Experience running design system audits, identifying inconsistencies in product surfaces, and bringing them back into the system.
  • Experience writing component documentation that is clear for designers, engineers, and product managers.
  • Expertise in making a design system interpretable and usable by artificial intelligence, including structured content, machine-readable patterns, artificial-intelligence-ready documentation conventions, and understanding how a large language model or code-generation agent consumes a design system.
  • Solid grounding in accessibility, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and inclusive design practices.
  • Strong technical understanding of how design systems are implemented in code.
  • Comfort working in a production-first environment where code is the source of truth and Figma reflects what ships.
  • Experience partnering with engineering teams to ensure design–code parity and smooth implementation of new components.
  • Experience supporting product designers through office hours, a support model, or peer review.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain a design system, present design rationale, and translate component-level decisions for non-design stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle complex support requests and turn recurring questions into permanent improvements through documentation, lint rules, and worked examples.
  • Ability to communicate well in both English and French.
  • Ability to work in an ever-shifting environment, collaborate with teams and stakeholders, and prioritize business-led actions.
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain components, patterns, and tokens in Purse, partnering closely with engineering to ensure design–code parity across web, mobile, and tablet.
  • Write and maintain component documentation for designers, engineers, and artificial-intelligence tools, including usage rules, anatomy, variants, accessibility, and worked examples.
  • Run audits, support product designers, and turn recurring needs into systemic improvements while working with the Design System Manager to evolve Purse through incremental, high-value milestones.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with business-to-business software-as-a-service products or fintech environments.
  • Familiarity with multilingual and internationalization design challenges.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining a tokens pipeline, including Style Dictionary, Tokens Studio, or Model Context Protocol-based pipelines.
  • Background in accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience working in fast-growing scale-ups.

Qonto and Pennylane: French fintech friends and foes vie for SME market dominance

Qonto and Pennylane, two Paris-based fintechs, operate as both partners and competitors in Europe's SME financial services market. Qonto, founded in 2016 and valued at $5 billion, serves over 600,000 customers across eight European countries with business banking, corporate cards and bookkeeping tools. Pennylane, founded in 2020 and valued at $4.25 billion, has over 800,000 customers using its all-in-one accounting and financial management platform. Whilst both companies integrate with each other's services, they increasingly compete for business. The rivalry will intensify as France introduces mandatory electronic invoicing for B2B transactions in September. Qonto is pursuing a French banking licence to offer lending products, whilst Pennylane recently raised $200 million to fund potential acquisitions. Qonto's managing director emphasises their different customer acquisition strategies, though both target traditional financial incumbents.
