Hexagon to acquire UK's Guidance Marine for $25M, expanding maritime positioning capabilities

Hexagon announced it will acquire UK-based Guidance Marine, a company specialising in sensors that measure a vessel's position relative to nearby structures like offshore platforms and wind turbines. Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Leicester, Guidance Marine serves customers in over 40 countries with radar, laser, vision and microwave-based sensing solutions. The acquisition complements Hexagon's existing marine positioning capabilities. Whilst Hexagon's systems establish a vessel's absolute position, Guidance Marine's sensors determine relative positioning, enabling integrated solutions for vessel operators. The deal broadens Hexagon's exposure to offshore wind, marine construction and port automation markets. Guidance Marine generated approximately €22 million in revenue for the financial year ending 31 December 2025, with operating margins above Hexagon's average. Completion is expected by end of 2026, with Guidance Marine joining Hexagon's NovAtel Positioning Division.

Hexagon to acquire Guidance Marine, strengthening maritime positioning portfolio.

Hexagon to acquire Guidance Marine, strengthening maritime positioning portfolio. STOCKHOLM, Aug. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Hexagon today announced an agreement to acquire Guidance Marine, a UK-based company focused on sensors that measure a vessel's position relative to nearby structures, such as offshore platforms, wind turbines, quaysides and other vessels, enabling ships to hold station and manoeuvre safely within metres of fixed and floating assets. Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Leicester, United Kingdom, Guidance Marine serves customers in more than 40 countries. Its radar, laser, vision and microwave-based sensing solutions are used in offshore energy, marine construction, port and harbour operations and naval applications, and are integrated with all major Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems, the automated controls that hold a vessel on station without anchoring. Guidance Marine's technologies are highly complementary to Hexagon's existing marine capabilities. Hexagon's GNSS, positioning correction services, anti-jamming and assured positioning solutions establish a vessel's absolute position, while Guidance Marine's sensors determine its position relative to the structures and assets around it. Bringing the two together strengthens Hexagon's ability to serve a vessel's full positioning requirement from a single, integrated portfolio, and deepens its relationships with DP system suppliers and vessel operators. The transaction also broadens Hexagon's exposure to offshore wind, marine construction and port automation, where tighter tolerances and increasing levels of vessel autonomy are driving demand for precision station-keeping. Guidance Marine's installed base across more than 40 countries and its established OEM relationships accelerate Hexagon's access to these applications. "We're excited to welcome the team at Guidance Marine to Hexagon. Their capabilities will expand the range of positioning capabilities available across our marine business," said Gordon Dale, President, Autonomous Solutions Business Area, Hexagon. "Guidance Marine brings proven expertise in relative positioning, which complements Hexagon's existing navigation and positioning solutions for the fast-growing maritime market." Completion is expected by the end of 2026, at which point Guidance Marine will become part of Hexagon's NovAtel Positioning Division within the Autonomous Solutions Business Area. Guidance Marine generated revenues of approximately €22 million in the financial year ended 31 December 2025, with an operating margin above Hexagon's average. The railway-news InnoTrans 2026 magazine is here! Josephine Cordero Sapién Published: 25 Aug 2026 InnoTrans returns to Berlin from 22 to 25 September 2026 and this year the show marks its 30th anniversary: it is the 15th edition of the event since it first opened in October 1996. That milestone runs through much of this issue, in which we are featuring many of the industry supply chain exhibiting at the event. imc Test & Measurement sets out its long-running relationship with TÜV SÜD Rail, and how a co-development project solved a packaging problem that had been causing costly downtime during wheelset homologation testing. Hexagon writes about its partnership with Track Forward on predictive wheelset maintenance. Hexagon's CALIPRI system takes non-contact, rapid wheelset measurements in operation; that data feeds into Track Forward's WheelSense analytics platform, which places individual measurements in operational context to flag wear development early and support forward-looking maintenance planning rather than reactive inspection. The two companies are exhibiting the joint solution together at InnoTrans, Hall 23, Stand 530. voestalpine Railway Systems writes about track and special trackwork at system level rather than component level. Gradall TrackStar looks at the shrinking maintenance window facing track teams and its case for a single-machine approach to track access. In Rolling Stock, Grueber marks nearly 200 years in spring manufacturing and plans to unveil its Steel Spring Generation 4.0 technology alongside iSpring, a digital measurement and monitoring system for in-service springs, at the show. HANNING & KAHL, family-owned since 1898, will be in Hall 27, Stand 610, debuting its new BrakeMaster braking system and a new filter flushing system for hydraulic brakes. If you are attending the show, you can find all of our suppliers attending this year's InnoTrans in the Supplier Spotlight. As always, thank you for reading.
